All the book says in this regard is that Bin Laden was shot when he peeked out to look down the stairwell. Then the body was twitching when they entered the room. They fired into the body since there was a concern that he might, as his last act, detonate an explosive.

It also says that one of the SEALs sat on Bin Laden's chest during the helicopter ride out...gross.

"Owen" wrote that a member of the SEAL Team 6 saw the terror leader put his head out of his room to look down the narrow stairwell the commandos were running up.

He said: "We were less than five steps from getting to the top when I heard suppressed shots. BOP. BOP. I couldn't tell from my position if the rounds hit the target or not. The man disappeared into the dark room."

Do people truly believe there was ever a 'Bin Laden'?

My opinion is that he was a fabrication, the assualt was designed to finally tie up the loose ends.

No Bin Laden = No need to prove/disprove anything.

The easiest way to sell anything in the world is to create a need. Creat the need and you have an instant saleable product.

The easiest way to commit troops to action is to create an enemy that does not exist.

Don't want to rehash what so many of us already think, however, I will go one step further and say I doubt there was ever a Bin Laden charachter at all.
