Protester who heckled Netanyahu in Congress allegedly beaten, arrested at hospital

CODEPINK activist Rae Abileah was arrested at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington D.C. after heckling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to the anti-war group.

The 28-year-old Jewish American woman was allegedly tackled by members of the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) during Netanyahu's speech to Congress after she yelled, "stop Israeli war crimes."

Abileah was taken to the George Washington University Hospital, where she was being treating for neck and shoulder injuries.

"You know I take it as a badge of honor, and so should you, that in our free societies that you can have protest," Netanyahu said after being interrupted by Abileah. "You can't have these protest in the farcical parliaments in Tehran or in Tripoli. This is real democracy."

Speaking from her hospital bed, Abileah said she was in "great pain" but that it was nothing "compared to the pain and suffering that Palestinians go through on a regular basis."

“I have been to Gaza and the West Bank, I have seen Palestinians homes bombed and bulldozed, I have talked to mothers whose children have been killed during the invasion of Gaza, I have seen the Jewish-only roads leading to ever-expanding settlements in the West Bank."

"This kind of colonial occupation cannot continue," she added. "As a Jew and a U.S. citizen, I feel obligated to rise up and speak out against stop these crimes being committed in my name and with my tax dollars.”

During his speech, Netanyahu said Israel was willing to make "painful" land concessions for peace.

There's a time and a place for boisterous protesting. He was addressing congress, she felt it necessary to stand up and yell, interrupting his speech, so she got tackled and moved out of there. What did she expect?

Imagine what would have happened to her if she had yelled out in protest in the "farcical parliaments in Tehran or in Tripoli".

He is a foreign agitator, and a War criminal...if you think about it. Can't say I blame the member of Code pink since Iraq is a War to benefit Israel. If we were fighting for our interests then I think people would be less annoyed with Israel. I wish Israel luck, but they are not doing the world or themselves any favors. If we elect Ron Paul in 2012 Israel will no longer be an issue for us. Vote Ron Paul.
forgive my spelling. I had a head injury.

Look how divided we are here. He Knows it, congress knows it..having him speak there is an invitation for protest. More people were going to be there but they got filtered out beforehand. I support my fellow American over a foreign agitator, sorry.

Not taking a side here, but your logic makes no sense to me.

If you're such a big defender of American principles, with your flag AV and all, how can you be against the right (responsibility, even) to protest?

Like I say, I'm not talking about this case, but in general.

Is peaceful protest is no longer appropriate or acceptable in America? (once again, forget this case - I'm asking a hypothetical question, since you've said it "a thousand times").

They didn't have to put her in hospital...

How would he like it if I put him in hospital because I didn't like what he had to say?...

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me

As soon as the Americans started talking about "immigration" as a problem, in a country built entirely on people who came on boats, there was no longer an America, they are just like the rest of the world now.
