It is no use talking tough if you can not back it up.

EDIT: Important to remember that whipping someones ass verbally can lead to getting one's ass whipped physically.
Best to carry a big stick just in case :)

I would like to say that I agree with the concept of the discipline but the video is completely misleading. The antagonists have ZERO reaction time and the set up and hang time is paint by numbers. In an actual altercation there is much more physical tension in each action and the reactions are always much less predictable than what is pictured. The concept of minimal physical response to attack is quite sound but the methods demonstrated work much better with trained participants than they do with actual unpredictable human beings. Just sayin. :sunny:

I also agree with you about the video.

Attackers are unpredictable when cornered.

But we're also unpredictable...the point of self-defense skills is to both react to the attack and only to react to it, i.e. defend yourself. The control. No revenge. No unnecessary violence. At least it should be like that...

Streetfight is a lot different than fight in a controlled environment, so it should be considered as such.
Krav Maga tries to differentiate these situations and if my kids were younger (a lot younger  ) i'd certainly try to convince them to learn it...

EDIT :

And yeah, the excessive force always reminds me of the death of one of the greatest bass-players ever, Jaco Pastorius :

After sneaking onstage at a Carlos Santana concert on September 11, 1987, and being ejected from the premises, Pastorius made his way to the Midnight Bottle Club in Wilton Manors, Florida.[25] After reportedly kicking in a glass door after being refused entrance to the club, he was engaged in a violent confrontation with the club bouncer, Luc Havan.[26] Pastorius was hospitalized for multiple facial fractures and injuries to his right eye and left arm. He fell into a coma and was put on life support.[citation needed]

There were initially encouraging signs that he would come out of his coma and recover, but a massive brain hemorrhage a few days later pointed to brain death. Pastorius died on September 21, 1987, aged 35, at Broward General Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale and was buried at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery in North Lauderdale.[27]

In the wake of Pastorius' death, Havan was charged with second degree murder but later pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Because he had no prior convictions, and accounting for time served while waiting for the verdict, he was sentenced to 22 months in jail and five years probation. He was released after four months in jail for good behavior.[28]

If the Havan guy was properly trained, we would still enjoy Jaco's playing...

 Sayokan predecessor...

http://www.fullcontactmartialarts.org/sayokan.html

The idea behind Sayokan is that this system can prepare the average person mentally to make the right decisions and physically to defend against larger and multiple attackers. Attacks of opponents are faced without carrying them into the thought level and pacified with natural action or response when fighting, without paying too much attention to technical details. Again, the idea is to use Sayokan as a strategy based on elements of security that allow the person to take his own decisions, instead of adhering to a rigid system of individual technique.

Turkish Krav Maga
Looks like it works pretty well :flop:

Great post, do you mind if I re-blog this (with full attribution and linking)? I really want to share it with my readers, they would find it very useful.
If you are a corporation seeking to improve staff morale, improve productivity,or develop better customar relations skills, you may want to consider trainings to anti-bullying or school violence. If you are a social service agency, mental healthl,or Seminar about conflict resolution organization, you may be more interested in training topics related to school violence, expert witness and self Injurious Behavior or cyberbullying or Interviewing techniques for children and Adolescents.
