At the meeting of the American Astronomical Society in California, NASA scientists reported, that astronomers have discovered the largest spiral galaxy in the Universe- the size of the galaxy NGC 6872 is more than five times the size of our Milky Way galaxy (see the video at the bottom of this article). According to Rafael Eufrasio from Space Flight Center of NASA Goddard, photos of the galaxy NGC 6872 were obtained using an ultraviolet telescope GALEX. The galaxy NGC 6872 is located in the constellation of the Peacock, a distance of 212 million light-years from Earth, the diameter of the galaxy is 522,000 light-years, the unusually large size of the galaxy NGC 6872 due to the fact, that the galaxy NGC 6872 interacts with the galaxy IC 4970, THE VIDEO: http://hainanwel.com/en/unusual-world/2 ... alaxy.html
