It seems to me, that Merkle doesn't really care much about Germany's future- economically, or otherwise- as long as she and her henchmen can maintain and direct the whole EU ball of wax. Much like our own pres. seems to have his eyes on U.N. territory. 
I sense evil in this woman, (and that man) and boy, is it a strong feeling.
