I don't look at it the way most christians do, tho i am one. I believe several floods took place. I also believe when God said he'd never flood the earth "again" he was referring to a collection of times it was flooded, not just the ONE with noah. I also believe that during all these floods several people were "noah's" and had the knowledge to build vessels and the heart to take in as many people and animals as possible. in addition to this, i believe there were "some" places that were already so high, that the people who lived up there were fine.
so multiply 1 out of say 10,000 people building a vessel for himself, his family, and some livestock to eat or help rebuild the far and start over later and one out of a million doing the same, but building a boat big enough for many animals in addition to his family. throw in a few villages where EVERYONE participated in this. then look at the mountain communities that didn't even need to do this, but the animals around them flew up to or climbed up to where they were and managed to survive too. All that combined, at random, and based solely on human hunches and inginuity could've plausibly happened.
I think Noah is just the avatar for the Christian version of the story. perhaps some of the flood stories are just copies, but i believe some of them are original and happened at different times. maybe gilgamesh is NOT the same story as moses?the south american and native american groups seem to think this will be the 5th or 6th time everything has been destroyed and they, in my opinion, have some of the most accurate and sensable depictions of what happened in the past. maybe they're exactly right.even science says time and events in time are cyclical and repetative.
point is, its not a fariy tale. if it only happened once, it happened, and animals were taken on board, cuz we and they are here now. but it makes more sense that it happened often and many people were "noah's".

Interesting argument.. No one said it is 100% accurate.. The flood story is a global story told over and over by many nations and peoples. Legend and fables are based on some fact.
This may be evidence that there was some factual account of a great flood in that specific area. Your train of thought also has a flaw..
You are throwing out the baby with the bath water.. Atheists and the haters tend to refuse to see what may be in front of them, because it makes them have to feel uncomfortable. Cutting off the nose to spite the face .. So yes I agree with your short sighted half baked comment.."Yup I guess it did make atheists think some. It doesn't take much thinking though...
Dear Slush...Half Baked and Short Sighted is what I do best. With help from DTV I hope to do better. Time will tell.

I think that the things that are going on in the world are leading up to what some call the lifting of the veil. It kinda remindes me of the Wizard of OZ, and ironicly some Pink Flyod tunes fit in there too.
Anything of interest always comes at ones expense.

Noah and his ark.....hmmm, thats a story that his been written about, discussed and argued over for years. Even I took an interest in it once - a completely non-parisian interest - I'm pleased to say! Firstly, a really big question - where did all that water come from? I mean can enough water fall in "40 days & 40 nights" to raise sea-levels to a point when they cover mountain ranges? Probably not - so the only other explanation has to be the melting of large amounts of ice - and I mean, vast, thousands, upon thousands of mile deep ice - just to cover the basic flat land, never mind the mountains. So, we can then say, well, old Noah must have lived AFTER the end of the last ice-age (which is about 12,500 to 10,500 years ago).
So, if we can agree on that logic, then Noah and his family were around during the early stone-age, about 10,000 years ago? They therefore must have been stone-age people - that's a logical deduction, ain't it?
Now, your average stone-age person, archeology tells us, probably lived in caves, was a nomdic hunter-gather,used tools made from stone flints, wore the skins of the animals he killed, had no writing - all his myths and stories therefore were passed around by mouth, he may even had God's, he had a talent to paint on cave walls, and that shows us a glimpse into his life because he showed the animals he hunted - their bones have been found in his caves, and of, course so was the stone-age man's!
The great thing was he had fire! - now technology speaking he was no Isambard Kingdom Brunel, in any shape or form, so I always just wonder, how these people who keep finding these 'arks' explain that they are massive structures (to take all those animals and people),
normally build of giant wooden beams, some even postulate they are held together with nails and rope, had divided compartments, was obviously watertight (now thats a real necessity for a ship made of wood!) - most wooden ships of years ago, were 'waterproofed' using TAR, a product made from oil), then they had to have rudders and steering - and that was just the ark! - never mind how Old Noah actually managed to gather up the 'animals two by two' - a feat in itself equilivant to building the great pyramid (and that took twenty years by a highly developed society who had mathematics, building skills, writing, language etc)
So, we have old Noah, living in the stone age, and he builds his boat - how? Just in what I said above, he would also have to invent a way to find and fell tree's of an enormus size, transport them to his 'boatyard', then here comes the really tricky bit, invent saws, laithes,
carpenter tools (the basic ones only I assume) contruction pulleys and ropes - lots of ropes, then invent the worlds first furnace to made nails and all the other metal parts such a great ship would need, and of course, the skills necessary for all this! Oh, and I forgot, to make the ship waterproof, he had to dicover oil, refine it and make tar - otherwise the thing would leak and possibly sink!
And he did all this, if you actually believe that these archeologists (all from a fundemental christian mission) have found Noah's ark!, in the early stone-age, when people lived short brutal lives because of how I explained they existed above.
Of, course I could be entirely wrong, and 'God' made all this possible, then when Noah left his boat after the dove came back, he 'forgot' all the skills he had acquired, in ship building, metal fashioning, the incredible tools he invented, the idea's of industry etc. was all forgotten and mankind remained stone-age for another few thousand years until the first great civilisations appeared, egypt, sumeria, babylon etc. and I doubt that they could have build such a craft (the pyramid is just incredible - but its made of stone, stays in one place, doesn't have to float or steer through rough sea's carrying thousands of animals and some people....).
Or is all wishfull thinking by a group of people to reafirm their (and other peoples) faith in a religion under siege from 'free-thinking', industrial/scientific and moral questions?
Any idea's?
Sorry, the post's a big one - but then what these people are advocating sounds an 'even bigger one'.
