This isn't good. North Korea has reportedly conducted a nuclear test. Unusual seismic activity in the region was detected that indicated a nuclear bomb and South Korea has told a United Nations Security Council diplomat that North Korea performed a nuclear test.
A 4.9 magnitude earthquake was felt in North Korea earlier with the epicenter supposedly near known North Korean nuclear test sites. Which means, the earthquake—which is unnatural to the region—was probably caused by North Korea detonating a nuke.
The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test Ban Treaty Organization put out this statement:

The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test Ban Treaty Organization put out this statement:
"Today our monitoring stations picked up evidence of an unusual seismic event in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). The event shows clear explosion-like characteristics and its location is roughly congruent with the 2006 and 2009 DPRK nuclear tests. For now, further data and analysis are necessary to establish what kind of event this is. If confirmed as a nuclear test, this act would constitute a clear threat to international peace and security, and challenges efforts made to strengthen global nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, in particular by ending nuclear testing."

Just hours after reports suggested that North Korea had abandoned its plan to detonate a nuclear device, the U.S. Geological Survey reported a 4.9-magnitude earthquake north of the 38th parallel on Tuesday. The Korean peninsula, by the way, is not prone to earthquakes. Not natural ones, anyways. The United Nations called it an "unusual seismic event" — at first.
Within minutes, a United Nations Security Council diplomat said that there had been a nuclear test in North Korea. And within an hour of that, the AP reported that South Korea "suspects" a nuclear test as well, while Reuters reported that South Korea was "on alert" for additional tests or missile launches. U.S. officials told CNN they were working to confirm the reports. Japan's Kyodo news service said the Japanese defense ministry was scrambling aircraft to look at radiation effects.

Good catch and post Will.
I was just reading this on CNN's website.
This is definitely a step in the wrong direction...things are heating up.

Shouting that Government is suppressing the people is like shouting that somebody pooped in the pool. It's only a funny statement until you realize it's true.

(Reuters) - North Korea conducted a nuclear test on Tuesday, South Korea's defence ministry said, after seismic activity measuring 4.9 magnitude was registered by the U.S. Geological Survey.
The epicentre of the seismic activity, which was only one km below the Earth's surface, was close to the North's known nuclear test site.
"We've been informed by the South Koreans that there's been a (North Korean) nuclear test," a U.N. Security Council diplomat told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
An international nuclear test monitoring agency said the location of the seismic event was "roughly congruent with" 2006 and 2008 tests carried out by the reclusive state and had "clear explosion-like characteristics".
North Korea, which had been threatening a third nuclear test, had informed Beijing and Washington on Monday of plans to undertake a test, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.

North Korea says it has successfully carried out its third underground nuclear test.
Pyongyang said the test involved a miniaturised nuclear device and was carried out in a "safe and perfect manner".
The confirmation came three hours after seismic activity was detected at North Korea's nuclear test site.
The UN Security Council had warned of "significant consequences" if Pyongyang went ahead.
It is to hold an emergency meeting at 14:00 GMT on Tuesday in New York, diplomats say.
"Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel."

Yeah, looks like the MSM is getting wind of this story...finally.

By the way, confirmed seismic activity...

WASHINGTON — North Korea confirmed on Tuesday that it had conducted its third, long-threatened nuclear test, according to the official KCNA news service, posing a new challenge for the Obama administration in its effort to keep the country from becoming a full-fledged nuclear power.
The KCNA said it used a “miniaturized and lighter nuclear device with greater explosive force than previously” and that the test “did not pose any negative impact on the surrounding ecological environment.”
Many nations initially detected the test as seismic activity centered near the same location where the North conducted tests in 2006 and 2009. The United States Geological Survey said it was only a kilometer underground, an indication consistent with a nuclear blast. And in Vienna, the organization that monitors the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty said that tremor had “clear explosionlike characteristics.”

North Korea announced on Tuesday that it tested a nuclear weapon. The country said it used a lighter, smaller bomb that resulted in a stronger explosion than the ones used in previous tests.

cheers Will
Will be anxiously keeping an eye on events especially after SK warned of a preemptive strike if any nuclear test was carried out by NK.
Not looking good at all.
