@ Slushpup... LMAO that was actually funny.. I had no Idea that Windows 7 had such a security breach, I really like it so far, it's easy to use, and so far no problems... I think I will try the Linux OS on the old computer and see where it takes me from there. I am liking what I am seeing from it so far I just hope it competes with the quality ( the legitimate) quality of windows 7... I will try however. and Imagine Microsoft at it again. just like their ridiculous X Box Prices, and there no longer or exceedingly rare "sit next to a buddy and play" video games. alot of the games that come out now like, driving games, and shooter games etc... you can't even sit next to a friend and play multiplayer, you either have to play with someone online, thousands of miles away or your friend sitting next to you has to buy Xbox live gold membership... also in some circumstances they would have to buy a TV as well, as the split screen wouldn't work... talk about a rip off . for a game that costs 60 - 65 dollars you would think that the 30 some that I have at least half of them would be able to play with a friend but nope... it is almost like they want to keep you seperated and constantly plugged in... so that was the point of all the video game stuff...

XBOX is sweet, but I can see where this is the fallout of freedom in video gaming as well as technology.

Oh and to the rest that helped me with Linux stuff thanks alot you all helped me out alot and I appreciate it.

wOOt! wOOt!

I am now visiting DTV using Ubuntu 9.10.

Just set up a USB bootable and loaded it up, and I like very much. It took a long time to load up the OS, but so far it seems worth it.

Weird that it took so long to boot mine takes 3 seconds or so. The computer I use constantly is a bit older too... 1.5 ghz 256k ram

I'm downloading Unbutu into the GF's computer to see what happened.. its loading now.

I did the "see what it looks like first" and it looked a little generic compared to the smoothness of windows 7. is that something that can be fixed with a few downloadable programs? otherwise I am extremely impressed, I noticed when you click things there is a distortion animation and I liked that... just hoping I can dress it up a bit more to look "technical" ...LOL

there is also Applications/gadgets... i forgot where to find them but I saw it somewhere...

thanks alot you guys I am thrilled to know that I don't have to buy an operating system, and it can compete with the best that is out there...SWEET!

If you have any questions about it you can ask me or fo to the ubuntu forums also try the seamonkey browser
to find new apps or whatever click applications then at the bottom it should say ubuntu software center
If you want something that looks a bit more technical or whatever try Kubuntu also same basic system just running on K Desktop Environment vs the GNOME desktop of ubuntu
You can find screen shots of Kubuntu here

@slushpup I just noticed that you spelt "example" in your topic post " exmaple ".. at first I thought maybe he mis-spelt it but then I remembered you are a Canadian, then I knew you were spelling it right..

@ woodgodguy, after further analysis of the still shot of the Kunbutu I might just be installing that one tomorrow... thanks again.

exmaple syrup is a hot commodity during the cold winters spent in igloos. LMAO Just ribbin'

I have ran into one problem with Ubuntu (Linux) that I can't find a fix for just yet. When I installed my version off of my USB stick and rebooted the computer, the initial login screen comes up and flickers like crazy. It also affects the keyboard so I am unable to actually log in.

However, since I can still run off my USB, I still haven't had to revert to Windows.

I'm gonna start spreading the word. I've already got two of my roomates (one building a new machine in the next month) wanting to use Linux instead of windows.

And I'm gonna start buying Microsoft stocks so I can save on the Toilet Paper budget.

Sorry to hijack this post with more Linux talk, but I'm discovering all the cool stuff in Ubuntu.

The coolest so far is the Ubuntu software centre. It lists hundreds of different free programs that you can one click install. There is software for everything here.

There's one program called APTonCD which will allow you to backup your programs/update files. Great for those OS re-installs. :flop:
