UK: Use of force in Syria can't be ruled out

LONDON (AP) -- Britain's foreign secretary says the U.K. won't rule out the use of an international military intervention in Syria to end the violence there.

Hague told lawmakers on Monday that Britain was focused on diplomatic efforts, but would "not rule out any other option which could at any stage stop the bloodshed."

He said Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime was "attempting with utter inhumanity to sow terror" among its opponents.

Hague said there was also credible evidence of human rights abuses and sectarian attacks by opposition fighters, and signs that al-Qaida-affiliated groups had carried out attacks "designed to exacerbate the violence."

He urged Russia to use its leverage with Assad, and warned that Moscow's plan for an international conference could risk buying "time for the regime to kill more innocent people."

BEIRUT (AP) -- The United States is accusing the Syrian government of using "new horrific tactics" against opponents of President Bashar Assad's regime.

U.N. observers report that Syrian helicopters have been firing on rebellious areas and concerns are mounting that civilians are trapped in besieged cities.

Activists reported more than 50 people killed across the country today, with violence in Homs, Idlib and Latakia provinces.

In Washington, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland expressed concern about reports the regime "may be organizing another massacre" in Latakia province, where U.N. monitors have been impeded. Nuland warned that Syrian forces should remember Bosnia in the 1990s, noting how the international community can find out who is responsible for abuses.

Violence in Syria has spiked in recent weeks, as both sides ignore an internationally brokered cease-fire that was supposed to go into effect in April but never took hold.

I guess the question is. Does it matter to me as an American? National security and all? Hell is what U.S. usually brings. Not sure if the UN brings much better than that. Usually a bomb and run. No real solutions. But that is just my opinion.
