OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma House committee has approved anti-illegal immigrant legislation that would give Oklahoma law enforcement officials new authority to assess the immigration status of motorists.
The House Judiciary Committee approved the bill Monday and sent it to the full House for action.
Its author, Rep. George Faught of Muskogee, says the measure incorporates language from anti-immigrant legislation in Arizona into Oklahoma's existing anti-immigrant measure that was approved in 2007. Both measures have been challenged legally.
Among other things, it gives state and local law enforcement officers the authority to inquire about the immigration status of occupants of vehicles that are pulled over for legal traffic stops.
It also prohibits employers from stopping their vehicles in public roadways to hire and transport pedestrians to a worksite elsewhere.

I posted this story for two reasons:
1) This will give law enforcement (any of said law enforcement) the power to pull anyone over anytime under the guise of illegal immigration. Even worse, what if you are simply passing through OK on your way somewhere else, technically not being from Oklahoma, you are now an "illegal immigrant".
2) I live here.

Actually they aren't allowed to pull people over just because they think they might be an illegal. This means if you're speeding, run a red light, etc and get pulled over....then the officer has a right to check into your citizenship. In some states you can get a license without being an American citizen, which is pretty crazy but it's part of the reason why this legislation will help.
I mean I don't like paying taxes, but if I'm going to be required to do so, I think anyone else who reaps the benefits of those taxes should be paying as well. The fact that illegals can avoid so many bills from the government is part of the reason they're able to work for such cheap wages, which in turn screws over tax paying Americans looking for work.
If you want to be a part of this society, join it like every other honest person and contribute the same. If for some reason you can't become a citizen here, there's probably a damned good reason for it (either over population, you're a criminal, etc). Any of those reasons usually means "if you join us, you'll screw us". We want to get better, not worse, and unfortunately that means excluding some people.
If an illegal needs to come to America to save their family well then that's fine, sneak into the country and try to take advantage to survive. But that doesn't mean I'm not going to try and protect myself from you taking advantage of my hard work. I mean in California, the state pays over 9 billion dollars a year towards illegal immigrants (for health costs, prisons, etc). For a state going into bankruptcy, and illegals being the #1 expense, you'd think people would care a little more.
Also the illegal jail population in California is over 30% now, that's insane. The fact that we put up with this is insanity, plain and simple.

I don't see why they need a Bill to do this anyway. The cops have been targeting certain groups of people forever in this country. All the cops have to do is lie and say the arrest resulted from a normal traffic stop. There are all kinds of reasons the cops can use; not stopping at a stop sign, not using turn signals, driving aggressively, being on a cell phone, ect...
