A comet is heading for the Sun to cause a huge impact?
Very cool I want to see if NASA will let us watch :flop:

The doomed comet is probably a member of the Kreutz sungrazer family. Named after a 19th century German astronomer who studied them in detail, Kreutz sungrazers are fragments from the breakup of a giant comet at least 2000 years ago. Several of these fragments pass by the sun and disintegrate every day. Most are too small to see but occasionally a big fragment--like this one--attracts attention.

It's the media silence on big events that concerns me. Couple questions:
Is it on a path direct toward the sun?
Does this object have a name, size, mass?
Any supporting data/links?

If yes,yes and yes, I sure hope somebody lets us watch. :think:

Hmm , If that object manages to use the Sun as an orbital mechanic.. I wounder what it's outbound trajectory would look like? Just a thought. :peep:

If that's a comet heading toward the sun. judging by this size comparison, the comet is as big if not bigger than planet earth :shock:

oh wow! ok...i dont know much about the sun, so maybe you guys can help me out. i check soho just about every day (not that i know what all of the charts and numbers mean) i just look to see the sunspots. do you think this comet will cause a large CME? plus with the solar wind so high, do you think that will make it worse in a way? probably a stupid question, but i just want to know what you all think. :nails:

Wow,how often does this happen? furthermore what effect will this impact have on the sun's activity and thus Earth and our climate...how many reactions are taking place in the universe every second?. :ohno:
