and it struck me if nobody is dying from the flu here and its no more harmful than normal flu then whyd they place a state in usa under marshal law, also why the pandemic? my third question how did all those people die??

Very sad..healthy kid too..
So its not the same as the normal flu.

as i have stated in a previous thread...my sister is a viral epidemiologist...so i may be privy to an actual opinion that matters....long story short..the reasons that H1N1 is being so scrutinized is not its lethality..rather the fact that such a high percentage of people succumb to it. there have been many, many influenzas with a higher mortality rate...but most of these have had an immunity rate of 75-80% (80% of the general public is immune or show very limited symptoms)....H1N1 is no more likely to kill you than most other viruses...but the immunity rate is extremely low 15-35% the numbers are hard to estimate because H1N1 seems to favor some genetic groups over others. this virus makes more people sick but our wonderful immune systems are working on an antibody campaign as we speak...within a year most (more than 50%) will have mysteriously developed an immunity...

not more likely to kill you...just more likely to make you sick.

They never to date have offered the slightest proof that it was not those grave prior illnesses which caused death and that the flu symptoms were merely a coincident event, what epidemiologists term an "opportunistic infection."

But it gets even more interesting. The WHO it turns out lumps its statistics for flu deaths together with those from pneumonia, a completely separate and far more common illness and a far larger cause of death, in a disease classification it calls "Influenza and Pneumonia (J09-J18)."

So, in 2007 the WHO recorded 21883 deaths attributed to "flu and pneumonia" without dividing each as to direct cause. But of those WHO classifications, flu itself only goes for symptoms in categories J09-J11. The entire rest of the categories deal with pneumonia and related lung infectious manifestations. Yet far and away the largest group of deaths from infectious diseases comes from pneumonia, not from influenza. The number of certified deaths from "influenza virus", with or without pneumonia complications was a far less alarming 14 persons in 2007. This clever trick allows pharmaceutical manufacturers like GlaxoSmithKline or Baxter Labs to promote their "flu" vaccines.

Of the three Children that died in Dallas in the last six weeks,
NONE had any of the 'offered" pre-existing conditions.

My wifes Student was VERY healthy..
All were healthy and happy but dead within three days.

I was on the complete OTHER side of the fence when this started,
saying it was total bullshit.

Its not. Its killing young healthy people.
Its different for some without other conditions,
unlike Influenza whom it usually spares..

What influenza viruses circulated this season?
Influenza A viruses accounted for 79 percent of the specimens testing positive for flu and submitted to CDC. Influenza B viruses accounted for 21 percent. A particular subtype*** of influenza A called influenza A (H1) predominated during most of the season. However, beginning in early March and continuing through May, influenza A (H3) viruses were reported more frequently than influenza A (H1) viruses.

Was there a good match between the influenza strains selected for the vaccine and the strains that circulated during the 2006-07 season?
The influenza A (H1) component of the 2006-07 flu vaccine was well matched to circulating influenza A (H1) viruses, which accounted for the majority of influenza viruses tested by CDC. There are two groups of influenza B viruses currently circulating, which are known as the B/Yamagata lineage viruses and the B/Victoria lineage viruses. The 2006-07 vaccine contained a B virus from the B/Victoria lineage and 77% of the viruses tested by CDC were from the B/Victoria lineage. Fifty percent of the influenza B viruses characterized as belonging to the B/Victoria lineage were well matched to the influenza B component of the 2006-07 flu vaccine. In the early months of the season, the majority of influenza A (H3) viruses circulating in the country matched the influenza A (H3N2) component of the 2006–07 vaccine. However, the proportion of H3N2 viruses similar to the H3N2 vaccine component declined as the season progressed. Overall for the 2006-07 season, 24 percent of H3N2 viruses were well matched to the vaccine strain.

Flu Deaths in Children
Flu-associated deaths in children (defined as persons 18 years of age and younger) first became a nationally notifiable condition during the 2004-05 flu season and are reported through the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS). However, CDC first asked for flu deaths in children to be reported to CDC during the 2003-04 season. The number of flu-associated deaths among children reported during the 2006-07 flu season can be found in the final report of the 2006-07 season.

How many children have died from flu-associated complications during previous flu seasons?
During the 2003-04 Season, 153 flu-associated deaths in children were reported to CDC.
During the 2004-05 Season, 47 deaths in children were reported to CDC.
During the 2005-06 Season, 46 deaths in children were reported to CDC.
As of August 6, 2007, 68 deaths in children occurring during the 2006-07 season have been reported to CDC.

Preliminary research suggests the seasonal flu shot may put people at greater risk for getting swine flu, CBC News has learned.

"This is some evidence that has been floated. It hasn't been validated yet, it's very preliminary," cautioned Dr. Don Low, microbiologist-in-chief at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto.

"This is obviously important data to help guide policy decisions. How can we best protect people against influenza?"

It's important to validate the information, which has not been peer reviewed, to make sure it's not just a fluke, and that the observation is confirmed elsewhere such as in the Southern Hemisphere, which just completed its seasonal flu season, or in the U.S. and UK.

Four Canadian studies involved about 2,000 people, health officials told CBC News. Researchers found people who had received the seasonal flu vaccine in the past were more likely to get sick with the H1N1 virus.

you have real experience with this virus....but that doesn't necessarily mean that your experience is mirrored by everyone in N. America.

where i live we have had a few who have been sick..none dead
