The above statements are not necessarily true. The historical reference is dubious, the reality is more mundane. The legends that have arisen about "the devil's interval" and its suppression are largely myth.
Tri-tone "substitutions" are only one of the tools in the modern jazz improviser's palette. Stacked 4th intervals, chromatic scales, microtonal "bending" of notes - all of these are components of what makes jazz "hip" and "out there".

All this sacred math here is based on miles and nautical miles which are arbitrary human-created increments of measurement. If you want to talk ratios, fine, but don't try to feed me sacred formulas based on inches, meters, kilometers or miles.
Anyway, there's a lot of thought-provoking stuff here but most of it seems to me to be very subjective speculation and I have a real hard time with statements like this one:
