Police to Investigate Beating of Pregnant Protester

The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case Friday against a police officer after a video surfaced showing him kicking a reportedly pregnant female protester in Sunday's March of a Million protest event.

The investigation was started after a video of the incident appeared on Youtube on Thursday, the Investigative Committee said in a statement on its website. The video shows the policeman kicking a woman, who is being dragged along the ground by other officers, in the stomach.

Investigative committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said that the case has been opened under legal codes for "abuse of power using violence," which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Communist Party member and State Duma deputy Sergeri Obukhov told Interfax that the victim was pregnant.

The video was initially reported to the police for investigation by State Duma deputies from the Communist Party, the BBC said.

the British police are taught to be aggressive as they think it will disperse any demonstration yet they ar so thick in there training ideals that this only inflames a situation ,they were totally unwilling to listen to the experience of crowd control learned in northern ireland and how to control a crowd out for trouble without the baton charges ,and then in the riots they sat back and let things happen without attempting to get a grip on the situation ,this was good for them as they then went to government saying they need new equipment armored transport and baton round guns and tear gas dispensers

avon and somerset police asked for baton and gas guns after the tesco riots in the city, ,it being used as a excuse to paramilitary the police

Our police used to be the envy of the world.
The more militarised police become, the more distant they will be from the public.

the police cant get any more distant in our city ,a neighbor caught someone breaking in to his garage the police were called on the 999 number they turned up after 45 min the kid had a knife and a long screwdriver on him but that made no difference the neighbours sat on him till they turned up ,the police get the largest slice of council tax and for what ,a piss poor service
