Hey Spock, why do you think these 2 rounds are picked out? Sounds odd to me. Most people like myself have seen this coming in the earlier stages. You could almost assume that some politicians were betting we would see the signs and stock up.

Here's some statistics I came across ...

Average number of firearm thefts that occur every year in the US: 341,000
(Source: US Dept. of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics, Guns and Crime, 4/94)

Number of guns federal firearms licensees have reported as lost, stolen or missing since Sept. 13, 1994 when the Clinton Crime Bill made reporting a requirement: 23,775

Based on those numbers, it seems that most guns that are stolen are not licensed, meaning that 317,225 guns stolen each year are already ILLEGAL!

I'm not sure what is determined as licensed. I've never had to do any more than the Fed quick check. I know some municipalities require other steps as officially recognizing the owner as capable and issue an actual license, but I've never been required to do that. So, along that line of definition, it doesn't mean that some firearms are illegal for lack of it. The feds don't require a purchaser to obtain a license, just pass their background check.

Been thinking too, of the selected rounds, .223 and .308. The only familiar characteristic they share (that I can think of) is long range targeting. So lets say, a military, or weapons educated individual was to take up sniping, the first round of selection would most likely be the .308, if that wasn't available, the .223 in a good hunting rifle would be next, due to it's excellently flat trajectory. Would you agree with this Spock? Anyone else?

i've been continuing to watch this and according to the georgia-arms website as of 4:30pm on 03/17/09 the DoD has recinded the order to mutilate all spent casings.
The gun blogs have been on fire with this,, people are writing/calling their congressmen and even calling the company directly POWER TO THE PEOPLE
This is what America is all about and i'm proud as hell of my countrymen at this moment,, GOD BLESS THE USA AND THE PATRIOTS THAT PROTECT IT
