No! We must hold ourselves to a higher standard then the people we call 'evil.' They torture and try to induce terror, not us! There was torture going on at gitmo, in US bases around the world as well ( as evidenced by photos of detainees naked, dressed like xmas trees, etc. we all saw them) ...Don't try to sugar coat water boarding as a useful tactic that does no long term harm...How the hell would you know? You look like a well educated man...Think back to when you were a teenager or young adult as these detainees tend to be...Imagine being raised to fear American and Israeli persecution...And suddenly those fears are realized and you have to fight a foreign invader!?! Now you spend 7yrs in prison for fighting for you beliefs ( years you spent telling all the girls your a pilot to get in their pants) We can't blame these soldiers and destroy their lives for it...If it were US-NWO troops being held so long after a conflict you'd sing a different tune I'm sure...Please let us know what airline you fly for so we can avoid it...Don't wanna be on board when you have some flash of patriotism and fly your plane into a mosque!
No offense

No.

We prefer to poison and bomb the innocent families to inspire snitches to come forward with the info to help stop bombs from "accidentally" falling on houses in their neighborhood. The debate about water boarding is a herd tactic to divert attention away from true war crimes. Propaganda doesn't exactly fly very well on this site, partner.

Gotta say no aswell, in this day and age there should be no excuse for torture, especially not by a nation that once thought of its self as a beacon of freedom and liberty. They havent just tortured in Gitmo theyve killed aswell, the sooner that place is shut and justice is brought to the torturers the better.
Kill em all and let god sort them out!

Typical liberal reply slush, But I lost a cousin in the 911 attack.
And us being Human we unfortunatly kill. But I would rather kill them over there then them
kill us over here,
The left has done everything they can to destroy our foundation, they are the party for the little guy, they want peace, they are LIARS!..they just want power to control you.
Funny that if sheria law ever worms it's way to the USA,
The first throats to be cut will be the liberal left whom all they want to do is hold hands and sing "we are the world"
Wake up slush, they want you dead just as bad as they do me.
I'm not racest, I HATE EVERY ONE!

Thanks for the replies! Wow, got a rise out of a few, eh? I must take exception to a few things however. First of all, these detainees are not "soldiers" as some have insinuated. They do not fight under a flag and they do not wear uniforms. The Geneva Convention is explicit as to whom it covers and these fighters/terrorists are not covered. It is partially why this is a difficult issue. Keep this in mind as well-military tribunals were already underway and Obama stopped them! I cannot reconcile this.

After WW2 actual enemy soldiers were repatriated to their countries. They were not given US citizen rights and a day in court. Their home countries accepted them with their arms wide open and they didn't show up 2 weeks later killing again. The folks at GITMO seem to be the worst of the worst. The countries that they are actually citizens of will not accept them and MANY SAY THEY DON'T WANT TO GO THERE anyway because they WILL be tortured. Its not a trivial point. And then there is the unfortunate reality that 61 freed detainees showed up fighting again just last year alone.

Yes, there was torture that occurred but that was in Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq; not GITMO. And the American soldiers responsible are now in prison as they should be.

I just think its unfortunate how liberal we have gotten in our definition of torture. Look at the recent report of a retired GITMO worker who says we did "torture" detainees with "isolation" and "sleep deprivation". While water-boarding is no doubt a "bad trip", it doesn't cause any damage and neither do the afore-mentioned techniques. We should recognize the difference between torture and intense coercion. I personally am against torture both morally and from a results perspective. A person undergoing torture is going to say whatever they need to get them to stop so the info the interogaters get is bad.

The reason these detainees were fighting isn't the question. They did it because of their convictions. Thats fine. But I'll ask you this....what would you do if you had a terrorist in confinement who just armed and hid some type of bio-weapon in a major city and won't tell you where or when its going to go off and if it does a million folks die?

Jeez Axe! I just reread your post-missed the bottom part the first time. Pretty harsh! No harm done-doesn't bother me. Just a couple extra things. I didn't mention a word about Israel in my article. Thats a little unfair. Its also a little unfair about the "flying into mosques" bit! You might be surprised to learn that I have been to the middle east many times and been inside many mosques. The folks I have met have been all very nice and welcoming. I think everyone should experience what that part of the world has to offer. The Gitmo question would be the same if it were a conglomeration of say South Americans that were detaineed.......its not an easy situation.....
