BP will undoubtably have liability insurance and this will not impact their profits as much (so watch out for an increase in your insurance policy).

Also, the cause of the initial explosion has not been properly determined and this should be one of the priorities. From what I understand, it was a cascade failure event that should not have been possible.
The initial mechanical failure of the seal caused gas to leak and thus caused an explosion... Why didn't the intrinsically safe, dual redundant ESD (emergency shut down) kick into operation. What caused the spark for the explosion?
