Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone
It is homosexuality, not celibacy, that is linked to pedophilia, the Vatican's Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone said on Monday, seeking to defuse the sex scandal that has battered the Roman Catholic Church.
On a visit to Chile, Bertone, dubbed the Deputy Pope, also said Pope Benedict would soon take more surprising initiatives regarding the sex abuse scandal but did not elaborate.
"Many psychologists and psychiatrists have shown that there is no link between celibacy and pedophilia but many others have shown, I have recently been told, that there is a relationship between homosexuality and pedophilia," he told a news conference in Santiago.
"This pathology is one that touches all categories of people, and priests to a lesser degree in percentage terms," he said. "The behavior of the priests in this case, the negative behavior, is very serious, is scandalous."
Bertone's visit to Chile comes as the Catholic Church has been buffeted by scandals concerning sexual abuse of children -- most of them boys -- by priests. There also have been allegations of cover-ups and even that the Pope mishandled cases when he was a bishop in Germany and a Vatican official before his election in 2005.

Pedophilia is the umbrella. Homosexuals are a subset of that, and homosexual priests are a further subset of that. Im pretty sure abusers dont discriminate, but homosexual abusers certainly do. And they arent being celibate if they are acting out on children, so that hasnt got shit to do with anything. Its the type of people attracted to the church work that determines the distribution. And since gays for some reason, do flock to churches and seminaries, there is going to be a higher incidence of homosexual abuse.
Im positive there is a price for all of it.

I was just reading the thread on Alaskan Pedophilia with the church.
It must really be a slap in the face for the people who give through tithing all that money to the church to see it used to pay off lawsuits against these men of the cloth.
The millions and millions just in those cases alone is staggering!
Low6, you are correct.
There surely will be a very high price to pay.............A price that money can't pay off........

The Vatican is about out. Abuse should always be reported to the shivering. Some dirty believers also suspended. But there is something else above statement - which can be found on the website of the Vatican - is fading. The second man in the Vatican or netnietpaus Tarcisio Bertone has stipulated that it is the fault of homosexuality. It is according to him is not that the priests with little children, but that small children are boys.
He has really done research on, as he refers to documents of psychologists (since when the church believes in science?). Who say there is no connection between pedophilia and celibacy, but between pedophilia and homosexuality. They are so damn gay that's pathetic that the Roman Catholic church-goers make life difficult. And if we are honest, the faith not like rugridders. How the hell are they in the church come? And why have they not the other priests sexually abused, or is that behind the scenes? The statement by Cardinal Bertone calls is actually more questions than answers. Nice is that we almost thought the whole thing behind to ...

UPDATE
Vatican: paedophilia-homosexuality comments were ‘misunderstood’

The Vatican moved to distance itself today from comments made by the Pope’s top aide linking paedophilia to homosexuality, as the Foreign Office dismissed suggestions that the pontiff could be arrested when he visits Britain in September.
Father Federico Lombardi, the Vatican spokesman, said that the remarks by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican Secretary of State, went outside the remit of Church authorities, adding that the comments had been misunderstood.
“General assertions of a specifically psychological or medical nature” were the responsibility of specialists and not Church officials, he said in a statement.
Father Lombardi said that Cardinal Bertone had been referring only to cases of paedophilia in the clergy and not to “the world population”.
He said that recent “statistical data” on the abuse of minors by priests showed that 10 per cent of the cases concerned paedophilia “in the strict sense”, while the other 90 per cent concerned sex between priests and adolescents.
Catholic bishops of England and Wales also distanced themselves from the comments.
Father Marcus Stock, general secretary of the Bishops’ Conference, said in a statement: “To the best of my knowledge there is no empirical data which concludes that sexual orientation is connected to child sexual abuse.
“The consensus among researchers is that the sexual abuse of children is not a question of sexual orientation, whether heterosexual or homosexual, but of a disordered attraction or fixation.”
He added: “Many abusers of children have never developed the capacity for mature adult relationships. Instead, their sexual attractions focus on children — boys, girls, or both. In the sexual abuse of children the issue is the sexual fixation of the abusers and not their sexual orientation.”
France added its voice to the chorus of condemnation, saying that it was “unacceptable” to lump paedophilia with homosexuality. The Foreign Ministry said in a statement: “This is an unacceptable linkage and we condemn this.”
The crisis over clerical sex abuse threatens to overshadow the Pope’s visit to Malta this weekend. Eleven Maltese men who claim to have been sexually abused as children by Catholic priests are demanding a meeting with him.
“We are asking to meet the Pope so he can apologise to us in person,” said Lawrence Grech, who was abused at a Catholic orphanage on Malta. “We want to meet the Pope for a few minutes to help us heal and to overcome this trauma.”
The Foreign Office told The Times that the UK was “delighted” that the Pope had accepted the Queen’s invitation to visit the UK in September. “The UK has full diplomatic relations with the Holy See and the Pope is recognised as its head of state. He therefore has sovereign immunity,” a spokesman said.
It refuted suggestions from the atheist campaigner Richard Dawkins and author Christopher Hitchens that there might be a case for charging the pontiff for crimes against humanity.
The Pope, who has not commented on the paedophilia crisis since his pastoral letter to Irish bishops a month ago, maintained his silence on the issue at this weekly audience on St Peter’s Square.
He said that priests had a duty to bring “the light of God” to people during “the confusion of our times”, but did not mention the abuse scandal.
On Monday the Vatican posted on its website guidelines that made it clear for the first time that bishops must report abuse to police.
Monsignor Georg Gaenswein, the Pope’s secretary, came out in defence of the Pope, arguing that he had done more than anyone else to crack down on abuse.
“It does not make sense, nor is it helpful, for the Holy Father to comment personally on each case,” he told the German newspaper Bild, speaking publicly for the first time since the scandal broke.
“It is overlooked too fast that various bishops and bishops conferences carry responsibility.”

Of course it's related to celibacy. Human nature, our animalistic hormones, and since being a priest you can't have a woman, your desires turn to the innocents who can't defend themselves
when we overcome adversity, we can become invincible
sorry but,
if i put a picture here of a priest peadofile with a child,
do i get the same response as pindz?
i m curious....
I was raised katholick so is it oke then when you post a confronting picture..???
Or is it oke as long as its no jew.
