Maybe the Monolith has artificial origins.

Aldrin's Monolith could in fact be related to the Pyramids in Egypt.

According to a legend, the construction of Cairo could not begin until moorish astrologers rang their bells attached to ropes ringing the area to indicate that the propitious moment had arrived.

However, a raven landed on the rope and set off the bells.

The astrologers consulted their charts to discover which planet was in the ascendant.

It was Mars - al Qahir - and in 974 Cairo was given this name from which the present conventional English name is derived.

With Mars figuratively meaning "warlike prowess", the feminine al Qahirah (cities in Arabic are feminine) represents "The Victorious" or "The Strong".

This is a suitable allegory for Mars' Moon Phobos, which means fear, and is named after the Greek god Phobos in Greek mythology, a son of Ares - Mars!
