That may be the case, but party matters as evidenced by how the republican party shut out Paul, and he wouldn't run as a Libertarian to give Republicans a chance to vote to someone else.

So, I ask you again. Would you rather have him run as a Republican or a Libertarian? Or both (after losing the Republican primaries)
