I read about this too. Apparently the Chinese are putting their best minds on the job, manhattan project style.

These reactors can burn up old nuclear waste at the same time apparently and weaponizing thorium is much harder.

I read this reactor still converts the thorium to uranium 223 I think before it's mostly expended in the process.
