From 2004. The U.S. hurried this purchase along in 2006 at the request of the Israeli military. Israel also purchased conformal fuel tanks, extending the range of the numerous American made aircraft.

Combine this with their 2008 military exercise in the Med. involving long range flights, mid-flight refueling, all around the same distance it would take to get to Iran and back. Also, their recent missile boat and submarine passage this year through the Suez Canal, in a military control exercise with the U.S. and Egypt, for the canal. When you then put this together with quotes about the Iranian situation from the Israeli leaders since day one, only one conclusion can be drawn.

Israel buys 5,000 bombs from US
Wednesday 22 September 2004

ISRAELI military sources said yesterday that the United States will sell Israel nearly 5,000 smart bombs in one of the largest weapons deals between the allies in years.

The sources, who were speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the deal will expand Israel's existing supply of the weapons. They did not identify possible targets.

Israeli newspaper Haaretz said that the deal is valued at £177 million and was revealed in a Pentagon report made to the US Congress a few weeks ago.

Funding for the sale will come from US military aid to Israel.

The deal was disclosed amid escalating Israeli worries over Iran's nuclear development programme.

Israel fears that Iran is trying to produce nuclear weapons. Iran says that its nuclear programme is for generating electricity.

Iran announced yesterday that it has started converting raw uranium into the gas needed for enrichment, a process that can be used to make nuclear weapons.

The bombs Israel is acquiring include airborne versions, guidance units, training bombs and detonators. They are guided by an existing Israeli satellite used by the military.
