Ron Paul VS. Mitt Romney - Virgina
Federal Judge to Rick Perry, et al: You snooze, you lose - Only Mitt Romney and Ron Paul to appear on Virginia ballot
The federal judge in the Virginia ballot access case has issued his ruling (Source: electionlawblog) in the matter of the Virginia Republican Party presidential primary, concerning whether Rick Perry and possibly others would appear on the ballot. He said that no preliminary injunctive relief will be forthcoming because Rick Perry and those that joined with him in his suit to have the Virginia law overturned, could have acted much earlier to contest the state's law against out of state petition circulators. As a result, the only names that will appear on the ballot will be Mitt Romney and Ron Paul. These two candidates submitted the required number of signatures in compliance with the law. While denying injunctive relief, the federal judge recognized that the Virginia law will probably be overturned as the weight of the case law is that circulating petitions is protected by the 1st and 14th Amendments.
As an FYI, Virgina is an open primary on March 6th. Meaning anyone can vote. Ron Paul MUST win this and win big if he has a chance. I'm thinking he needs to get 60% or higher, to have a real shot at having the voters rally around him.
Edit: Another FYI, March 6th is Super Tuesday.
