Boise, Idaho (updated to include voting percentage) – The Idaho Republican Party announced Friday night that Ron Paul won the first ever public Idaho Republican Party Presidential Straw Poll that was held at the Riverside Hotel in Boise, Idaho. Three hundred and ninety-nine participants from all over the State cast votes for the Republican Presidential candidate of their choice.

“The Idaho Republican Party congratulates Congressman Ron Paul on his straw poll victory tonight,” stated Chairman Norm Semanko. Semanko continued, “It was a packed house tonight, the energy was contagious, and the Idaho Republican Party is looking forward to making Barack Obama a one-term President! We now turn our focus to the March 6th Presidential Caucus, and we welcome all Republican candidates to visit our great State, to discuss issues important to Idahoans, and to campaign for Idaho’s 32 delegates to the Republican National Convention.”

The results from the Straw Poll are as follows:

Ron Paul – 173 (43%)

Mitt Romney – 135 (34%)

Newt Gingrich – 47 (12%)

Rick Santorum – 40 (10%)

Jon Huntsman – 4 (1%)

Note: Rick Perry's campaign asked not to be included on Straw Poll Ballot

It's funny that Rick Perry's campaign asked not to be included on Straw Poll Ballot. I guess he didn't want the embarrassment.

These Straw polls make for good political theater, but nothing more. Look who won the Iowa Straw Poll. 'Nuff said.

Ron Paul is the only candidate that wants to end the fed and to stop policing the world. 'Nuff said.

I am aware it's often a thankless task persuading someone on a forum that they are mistaken. They are often, in the true sense of the word, bigots!

It is hilarious that Santorum's nephew supports Ron Paul. What a huge endorsement. :owned:
