GOTLAND, Sweden, December 23, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) — A Christian home schooling family could permanently lose custody of their only child simply because they home-school. Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) and the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) are joining forces as legal advisors to the family in order to persuade the Swedish government to return the seven-year-old child to his parents.

“Parents have the right and authority to make decisions regarding their children’s education without government interference,” said ADF Legal Counsel Roger Kiska, who is based in Europe. “This is about a socialist government trying to create a cookie-cutter child in its own image. Without help, the parents in these cases are really powerless since the system is so one sided.”

Swedish authorities forcibly removed Dominic Johansson from his parents, Christer and Annie Johansson, in June of last year from a plane they had boarded to move to Annie’s home country of India. The officials did not have a warrant nor have they charged the Johanssons with any crime. The officials seized the child because they believe home schooling is an inappropriate way to raise a child and insist the government should raise Dominic instead.

“It’s one of the most disgraceful abuses of power we have ever witnessed,” said HSLDA attorney Mike Donnelly. “The Swedish government says it is exercising its authority under the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child in their unnecessary break up of this family. In addition, the Swedish Parliament is considering an essential ban on home schooling. We have heard that other home-schooling families in Sweden are having more difficulty with local officials. We fear that all home-schooling families in that country are at risk.”

Swedish social services initially limited visitation to the child to two hours per week but now have curtailed that to one hour every fifth week and no visit at all for Christmas because the social workers will be on vacation.

On Dec. 17, a Swedish court ruled in Johansson v. Gotland Social Services that the government was within its rights to seize the child. They cited the fact that Dominic had not been vaccinated as a reason to remove him permanently from his parents and also claimed that home-schoolers do not perform well academically and are not well socialized. The ordeal has left the child and his parents traumatized.

Ha, that's fucking amazing. I TOTALLY side with the government on this one. Obviously there's more to the story than this but of course anything to paint a government in negative light...

Like they went to the house and said, "You, out of the 9 million people that live in this country, are the only ones that havent vaccinated your child. Plus you homeschool so, yea you're bad parents." Right. And Elvis sings in my church choir.

If that were my only child...I'd devise a plan to "forceably" take the child back!!!
Exit stage left and gut anyone who got in my way....

And the "no vaccine" excuse.....If the child was home schooled...the child would have no need for the vaccine as the child would not be any danger to other children at school....not to mention the fact that the vaccine is a total sham anyway.....

I'd like to see anyone try taking my child from my home with no just cause....they'd end up missing a few limbs!!!!!

you may be right.....something had to set the government off and make them a "target"....but then again..... :think:

...I've been witness to the family courts here in the U.S....and often enough the courts make some pretty dispickable rulings that were totally unjustified and only worsened the situation.....Goggle family court judge Lambert in Kentucky...that bitch made a complete mess of many families in this area (4 times as many children were removed from thier homes during her rein!). Parents formed colalitions and got a retired judge to come back and run against her...thankfully he won and sent that bitch packing. He "reheard" several of the cases, exponged many parents, and reunited many families....

Removing children from thier homes should be the last resort....not the first!

But in this case the kid's original country is India and the fact that he was taken from a plane as they were trying to return to India is a red flag. We don't know the whole story. A columnist who wants to cast a negative light over his government is clearly cutting his own version....

Yeah...it does sound fishy that they were trying to "flee" the country.....the story does sound a bit one sided......But hey...if you caught wind that the gov was gonna come down on you hard for no good reason....wouldn't you try to get out too...?? :think:

....or maybe they are just a bunch of child molesters, got busted, the courts couldn't "prove" it so they made some shit up to protect the child...who knows??
