But how much of these practices use the power of the mind, the belief in the effectiveness of said tool.............versus the tool itself.

YES, I have..I didn't read the whole thing, but what I did read is now full of side notes, although I read it in another way than Christians do, I search for hints that reveal the original meaning, that means before it was translated and manipulated

you could try reading a synopsis of the bible, or the most famous parts (synoptic gospels (mathew mark luke and john), and the book of revelation). Of course, you are free to worship the creator as you so choose, it just so happens that the greatest philosopher who lived reportedly had a vision of the cross, and also described perfectly what we need to make the next life somewhat imagineable (plato, i mean, of whom alfred north whitehead said: essentially, all western philosophy is but a foot note to plato).., check out defense of socrates, gorgias, republic, and so on. You do have a soul, you should value it above your body, or any lusts you can satisfy by new age witchcraft mumbo jumbo (although it is of course your choice, but please, know what you are doing!)

My sister told me the other day that a dark figure(spirit) came into her room while she was in bed pulled on the covers and tried to smother her. She had just laid down, was wide awake and was home alone. When she started praying the Lord's prayer the words "be careful" came out of her mouth involuntarily. She doesn't know what to do. Does anyone know anything about this or how to get rid of it? The way she explained it sounded like what some call 'shadow people'.

Check around your house to see if there's anything in there that's linked to dabbling into occult or dark forces like ouji boards and things people use for witchcraft etc. Those things can invite dark forces into a person's life. If you have things like ouji boards, pentagrams or anything like that get rid of them and put some crosses in your house.

She doesn't have anything like that but her husband is Jewish and he has all these things he hangs up all over the place that are supposed to be blessings or prayers I guess. Don't seem to be working! When I stayed there he told me "fuck you and your God"- I'm a Christian. He doesn't realize we hae the same God? Maybe thats why this stuff happens.

Smudging worked for me when I was dabbling in some wrong magik.
1) Crack a window in each room of your home and take a dried bundle of sage
(available at most metaphysical stores) and "smudge" your home clearing out any
negative or stagnant energies. Smudging is simply lighting the sage bundle, making
sure you have a safe receptacle to catch the ashes in, and walking around your entire
home allowing the smoke to circulate and cleanse the energy and space.

2) Being firm and unemotional, walk around each room of your home, while saying
loudly and firmly, "This sage is cleansing out all negative energies and spirits... all
negative energies and spirits must leave now through the windows and not return." Do
this until you sense the negative energy has gone and the room's energy lightens (to
a positive - look for peace) and then say, "In the name of God , this room is now
cleansed." Know and sense this.

3) Remember not to worry about how you sound if you stumble on your words. The
main thing is your intent, which is your faith. You have power and have nothing to
fear. Your intentions are to rid the home of negative energies and spirits and they will
know this, if they are there. Always work with your own energy from within your soul
and incorporate this energy into the cleansing. Draw your divine power from within
your innermost being, which basicly have that feeling you get when your just starting a new job. Your intent is firm-real-and no mistakes made!

Always be firm, non-fearing, unemotional and deal with negative ghosts strongly, yet
in love. You are always in control and are not powerless. Some people like to re-visit
a cleansed house by going back into all of the rooms with a pleasant incense such as
lavender while inviting all loving, protecting, positive spirits into the home. You may
end the ritual by lighting a white candle and setting it on a table to burn for a bit to
"seal" the ritual.
