According to a team of UCSF researchers it should. They maintain, in a new report, that sugar is fueling a global obesity pandemic, contributing to 35 million deaths annually worldwide from non-communicable diseases like diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
Non-communicable diseases now pose a greater health burden worldwide than infectious diseases, according to the United Nations. In the United States, 75 percent of health care dollars are spent treating these diseases and their associated disabilities....read more

They want sugar controlled because it is natural and not laced with poison, if they succeed GMO corn-syrup will replace sugar in all foods. Yum yum

I have to agree there, but I could be wrong.

"Kinder, die Zeit ist reif..."
Judging by the size of Mrs. Obama's ass, I'd have to say yes.

ATHEISM:
The belief there was once absolutely nothing. Nothing happened to the nothing until the nothing exploded into everything. Then all of the exploded everything rearranged itself, into self-replicating bits which turned into dinosaurs.

If sugar was found today it would be a controlled substance, due to it's addictive nature.
Sugar is the first addiction we all learn.
Sugar addiction is propagated by family and friends
It is also encouraged by the media,
by popular culture as ok to have a sweet tooth, to be addicted to sugar
Sugar is one of the main reasons for obesity.
And after all that
Now I am going to dip my chocolate biscuit in my tea.
mmmmmmmmmm

I am aware it's often a thankless task persuading someone on a forum that they are mistaken. They are often, in the true sense of the word, bigots!

That depends, do you want the government telling you when you can buy a cookie. How about having them tell you how much cake you can eat?
Better yet, how much tax would you like to pay for your morning doughnut? Because that's really what this is about. Money. It's about giving the fuckers one more thing to make us pay for.

Your body NEEDS sugar. And, yes I am aware that it gets it from natural foods as well.
This isn't a health issue. It is a taxation issue. It's the same reason they control alcohol. Taxation. If I want to eat a pound of sugar every day that is my business not the US government's.
It's funny that they want to regulate and tax that damn sugar but not all the other bullshit chemicals that end up in our food.
Stop falling for these stupid misdirections they always give you it makes you look like sheep.
And to add, sugar is NOT a main reason for obesity. People sitting on their fat asses all day and doing nothing IS. Don't blame the food. It is the person that is responsible for their own weight. (medically valid reasons not withstanding). Most people are fat because they cram food in their faces all day and barely move.

That is the problem.
It is all about money not anything else.
If it was purely a health issue then yes.
But as we know that is not always the case.
Honey is a great sweetener, but I dont think the bees could keep up with production
