While you're not technically a slave to your conciousness, you are indeed a slave to the mechanism of processes that form your conciousness.

You take it for granted every day; you peer out through a selection of biological tools evolved to utilise and amplify a collection of senses that form the inner you. Inwardly you think of yourself as separate from your biological body, and this is actually true to a certain extent, for example: Your spinal cord is damaged, yet this doesn't affect your ability to consciously perceive, even though it's an inconvenience, you're still functional, you're still you.

However, the you-you perceive isn't actually you at all, it's a representation of predetermined processes, you're a by-product of selective reasoning formed at a subconscious level and evaluated for risk assessment before the concious you perceives the reasoning and enacts the actions of such reason. Your every move is mapped planned and formulated for action just over six seconds before you do it. Yet to you, your every move seems instantaneous and prejudged at a concious level, but this is not the case.

The eyes you're now using to read this sentence are picking up data; formulating it and cross-referencing it with a collection of stored memory which indicate shape context and juxtaposition. You may think at this very second you're reading THIS word, but in actual fact you're not, you're much further down the sentence, in actuality you were probably around about here, and all of this neural input and computation was undertaken over six seconds before you even became aware of the fact you were even doing it.

Image

In effect you're running on a delay, you're never truly in the present, at least not the you reading this right now. (The present being a concious term of describing the instantaneous), but here's the aspect that will bend your mind. You are in the present (or what is perceived as so) and you can consciously react as such. For example: You stand in a lion enclosure, the lion moves to attack you, you retreat and react instinctively to its action in order to protect yourself. Cause and effect.

Now think about this, conciousness itself is still very much at the forefront of mystery in science. If you're religious you refer to it as the soul, same thing, but it appears that higher state conciousness (the kind that allows for self awareness) is extraordinarily rare in nature, so rare in fact that of all the thousands of tests conducted on all manner of life, only simian have it, chimpanzees gorillas and us. Now you may argue this, "Hey my dog has its own personality, I know it's self aware," but this isn't so. It may be concious, but it doesn't know it's concious.

From the time which you were born, up until 18--24 months of age, you weren't self aware. It's unknown how your senses merge to allow for self-awareness, (some speculate it's a mechanism used by conciousness at the most perilous biological time, infancy) but needless to say you do gain self-awareness.

If you have a child under 18 months of age, conduct this simple test, place a mark on their right cheek, then place the child in front of a mirror and watch them look at their own reflection. What you will find is the mark on the cheek will go unnoticed, after 24 months of age repeat the test and watch the result. Between this time we all gain the ability to self recognise and reason our surroundings. Simians are the only other life-form on Earth that can do this; not even dolphins are capable of this task. It also makes for a pretty compelling case in favour of evolution. Not that anyone should ever question the ability of life to adapt mutate respond and precode itself, I would imagine that much is obvious, especially to those who've looked. Viral microbiology will cure anyone of intelligent design syndrome. But whereas a virus could neither be classified as alive nor dead (they have equal attributes of both states) it's pretty obvious that reason and perception are not part of their mechanisms.

Image

Viruses react and mutate due to chemical processes in the hosts in which they travel. They are symbiotic opportunistic and only kill in rare forms, any viral component that kills its host is in error and has mutated into a form known as a fast burn, all viruses and bacteria want to live in balance with their host, and most do with the exception of a rare few, Ebola, Spanish Flu, HIV etc. HIV is interesting too, because that kills a person by infecting the very cells that the body uses to fight infection. It's a perfect organism and a deadly one, but it's too perfect for its own good. Some would even argue that the Congo's HIV and Haemorrhagic Fever are engineered, but that's a whole other debate. Which you can find here as it happens.

the-most-mysterious-and-deadliest-organism-on-earth-t91507.html

I don't drone on about viruses for no reason though, I'm using them to illustrate the difference between our level of reality and theirs. They aren't concious, they are reactionary and their only motive is replication. Yet it's not motive that drives them. That is a concious decision, viruses and bacteria are governed by genes and the rate at which those genes are successful at replication. They're not aware of themselves. We are governed by our genes too, so too is all life on Earth, but only we and our simian cousins are able to comprehend our own existence and try to place it in context.

Image

Could it be that conciousness is an aspect to evolution that nature is only recently organising itself into replication? You see for as much as we on an individual level are different to a virus, on mass we are exactly the same. Only we can look out and reflect upon our nature on an individual level, and then 'consciously' help shape the mass within. The equivalent for a virus would be a 'mutation', in the film The Matrix it was referred to as 'The One.', and in religion it's known as 'transcendence.' In other words, evolution of individual ability passed on to a mass for replication.

Conciousness is puzzling, your ability to govern over yourself and reason within yourself is equally puzzling, especially considering the entire process of thought is free of biology. Of course the process is biological, but the 'experience' isn't. For example: Yuo cna raed tihs wihtuot a prbolem bceasue yuor mnid raeds shpaes. Your previous association with a known shape of a word in conjunction with the known sound all adds together in your mind to give you the key to deciphering it. All of this is done before you're even consciously aware that you're even raednig teh crroect splelnig of teh wrod.

As you grow your surroundings circumstances and experiences shape who you become, those are choices you have no say in. A racist is not born a racist, that is a conditioned attitude. You are not your name or the country in which you live, you're not even the inner dialogue and voice your mind is using to read this line of text. So who exactly are you?

You're the process of a hundred billion neurons all talking to each other at every moment of your life while you're both awake and asleep. You have neurons assigned to very specific tasks in your mind, tasks it seems which may seem unimportant, for example: one neuron (or a collection of many) in your mind is/are assigned to recognising the face of a given person you know, they fire when you see this person specifically. It's a triggered memory that helps reason the present. You don't consciously store that information. Have you ever consciously tried to memorise information on a persons characteristics? Good luck!

Image

You're a walking mystery, you're reading this while processing the information and coming to your own conclusions; you're weighing up your own experiences to formulate an opinion based upon what you've just read. The problem is, you already did this six seconds ago. Free will is a paradox of concious thought.

You're only as free as your mind allows you to be, but that's an argument for linear predetermined constants, and also begs the question. What then is real? Are you real or the imagination of such a process? In your reality it makes little difference, because you are you and as such your only as real as you need to be, but fundamentally, removing the constraints of perceived reality, are you?

It's the implied nature of this argument that usually disturbs people, and it has quite genuinely driven some people insane reasoning it on the quantum side. There's no greater question, at least to my conciousness, or whatever my conciousness actually is.

We all have our own universe within our minds, and that may not be too far from the truth.

Image

So if you respond to this, realise that the movement of your fingers and the keys in which you're pressing were decided upon before you consciously chose to move a digit.

I read some. Good. I can't see how simple organisms needed to evolve into the complexity needed
to become human and self aware.

Image

The same can be said for birds, why did they need to evolve feathers and fly? how long did this adaptation
take before birds figured out they could fly by flapping their feathered stumps?
Good forward thinking by the birds mutation that's for sure.

Have a nice day Troll.

Evolution is mutation and passed on genes, in part reactive to surroundings and detrimental to the survival of the organisms ability to multiply.

You have children, half of their genes come from you, and half from the mother, in effect creating an individual from the two, which is why the process is touch and go, sometimes it works, others it doesn't.

The only exception are when twins are born, they share the exact same structure and make-up as each other.

The action potential of neural firing mechanisms. The below text is from 'PsychologyAbout', and covers the mechanisms that allow for a positive charge to be fired via the neural network and how the process works. Note: the 'all or nothing law'...

***

An action potential is part of the process that occurs during the firing of a neuron. During the action potential, part of the neural membrane opens to allow positively charged ions inside the cell and negatively charged ions out. This process causes a rapid increase in the positive charge of the nerve fiber. When the charge reaches +40 mv, the impulse is propagated down the nerve fiber. This electrical impulse is carried down the nerve through a series of action potentials.

Prior to the Action Potential

When a neuron is not sending signals, the inside of the neuron has a negative charge relative to the positive charge outside the cell. Electrically charged chemicals known as ions maintain the balance of positive and negative charges. Calcium contains two positive charges, sodium and potassium contain one positive charge and chloride contains a negative charge.

When at rest, the cell membrane of the neuron allows certain ions to pass through while preventing or restricting the movement of other ions. In this state, sodium and potassium ions cannot easily pass through the membrane. Potassium ions, however, are able to freely cross the membrane. The negatively ions inside of the cell are unable to cross the barrier. The cell must activity transport ions in order to maintain its polarized state. This mechanism is known as the sodium-ion pump. For every two potassium ions that pass through the membrane, three sodium ions are pumped out.

The resting potential of the neuron refers to the difference between the voltage inside and outside the neuron. The resting potential of the average neuron is around -70 millivolts, indicating that the inside of the cell is 70 millivolts less than the outside of the cell.

During the Action Potential

When an impulse is sent out from a cell body, the sodium channels open and the positive sodium cells surge into the cell. Once the cell reaches a certain threshold, an action potential will fire, sending the electrical signal down the axon. Action potentials either happen or they don't; there is no such thing as a "partial" firing of a neuron. This principle is known as the all-or-none law.

After the Action Potential

After the neuron has fired, there is a refractory period in which another action potential is not possible. During this time, the potassium channels reopen and the sodium channels close, gradually returning the neuron to its resting potential.

WHEN you woke up this morning, you found the world largely as you left it. You were still you; the room in which you awoke was the same one you went to sleep in. The outside world had not been rearranged. History was unchanged and the future remained unknowable. In other words, you woke up to reality. But what is reality? The more we probe it, the harder it becomes to comprehend. In the eight articles on this page we take a tour of our fundamental understanding of the world around us, starting with an attempt to define reality and ending with the idea that whatever reality is, it isn’t what it seems. Hold on to your hats.

thought provoking stuff :flop:

saw this, its probably bolony but sort of relevent.

A metaphor may help to provide an intuitive feel for this effect - watching a river move past a stick. The metaphor works as follows: Imagine that the direction of the water’s current is the conscious experience of the flow of time (temporal flow), and imagine that an intrusion in the flow (the stick) is an emotional, arousing, or otherwise important event. The largest disturbance in the water made by the intrusion is downstream (in the "forward" time direction), which is analogous to our conscious reaction to experiencing the important event. But if one examines the flow of water near the stick, one will also see a small perturbation upstream, anticipating the intrusion in the water downstream due to the back pressure. Similar to PAA, this upstream perturbation is a hint of things to come. It is not normally part of our conscious awareness and, as with disturbances in a flow of water, the majority of the effect of an intrusion is downstream of the intrusion.

the tools to detect the sketch of life are outside of our domain
new agers and buddist call this the human body astrial projection of our
spiritual self

conversly the christians call the spirit dead and a shell called a soul
is all that is left in the aetheric plane of exsistance

kabbalistic scientist like walter russell (IBM AND PRESIDENT ADVISOR)
and tesla and others speak of a AETHER
where the magnetic and the gravitational moments source from.
giving all magnetic moments a quadrapolar polarity

that means all the diploles in our universe have a quantum partner
in the aether, all matter is fabricated by dipolar spin wether matter or antimatter
we are truly pan dimentional beings, exsisting in a pan dimentional universe
only we cant see the other side.

that side will have the patteren of life based upon fractals and golden means
and the 1-golden mean like a archatangent that side will have the pattren
even if we lose a leg or a arm , the pattren is set for the biologicals

the spirit of conciousness is beyond the aetheric realm, it eminates from
the source of all life human or animal in all religons that additionaly overlay
of programming sources from a place that is a mystery to fallen angels and
is dispartate from the aetheric

to over simplify this
the universe is a quilt and is stiched to the aether that backs it up
but the soul is painted upon this by a hand who's head is unseen :hugging:
