Interesting thought, I did first time hear from it.

Here is something to think about too:

But I would like to know more about it...

The Bad Astronomy site does not address the key points correctly. First of all he had to backtrack and admit that indeed Pu-238 is fissile, that is, capable of a sustained fission reaction, and in fact, if compressed enough it's actually better because it does not require a neutron initiator as much as Pu-239 does. Regardless of this, 15% of the mix is Pu-239 anyway which is the prime fission material.

He also concludes that all of the pieces will get broken up with a Jupiter entry, but that has been proven wrong as NASA ensured safe entry of at least 15 LWRHU's behind a HEAT SHIELD in 1995, not to mention these pellets are MADE TO SURVIVE ATMOSPHERIC ENTRY.

He says there is not enough compression for fission, but of course there is, once an LWRHU falls deep enough; there is sufficient FUSION pressure once deep enough also (30,000,000 bars around 80% deep). It's the best kind also, an even, unrelenting, outside pressure from all directions at once. When Pu reaches its seventh stage under massive pressure it also makes a sudden volume change creating the conditions for immediate fission starting.

Jupiter only lacked the STARTING FUSION TEMPERATURE to go stellar, it has the right ingredients and the right pressure deep inside. They found a way to get that starting temperature artificially. Remember that as density increases, so does the potential for supercriticality, so that even the 0.006 lbs. of Pu-mix CAN fission eventually once massively compressed.

BAD ASTRONOMY is simply WRONG on this, and he did not do his homework.

Why do you think they say "Jupiter would be a star if it was larger..." This is because INDEED Jupiter HAS the right ingredients, it only lacked STARTING TEMPERATURE for FUSION due to MASS. It had the correct ingredients AND the correct pressure to sustain fusion, it only needed the FUSION TEMP SPARK, and now that has been supplied!

Ok, so there IS ample evidence to show that SOMETHING is going on....

Now IF, IF indeed the "Jupiter Fusion" theory is correct, and I remind you these kinds of things were predicted BEFOREHAND on Jupiter because of THIS VERY THEORY...
IF this theory is indeed correct, we are talking about the largest event in human history taking place before our eyes! The evidence IS THERE....!
