A small plane crashed Friday in a neighborhood in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, area, the Broward County sheriff's office and the Federal Aviation Administration said.
Video from the scene showed a building that appears to be a small house, virtually cut in two as firefighters poured water on smoking debris.
A sheriff's office official says two or three homes have been affected.
The plane crashed at 11:16 a.m. ET, and the crash site is near Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.
Officials don't know whether the home was occupied or how many people were on the aircraft, which the FAA says was a twin-engine Cessna.
Jim Leljedal of the Broward sheriff's office said that along with fighting the fire, officials were focused on dealing with downed power lines.
