Normally the earth magnetic field does protect us from the flares, if our earth didnt have
this one or 2 huge holes

The Earth's magnetic fields are at their weakest around the time of the Equinoxes... so, from about March 15 until April 1, and September 15 until October 1. Also, the stability of the magnetic poles affect the Earth's magnetic field. So during this time while the magnetic poles are moving around so quickly.. about 40 miles per year.. leaves us vulnerable. And in about two months, we're REALLY going to be vulnerable.
