Texas Sheriff's Office Issues Domestic Terrorism Warning With Regards To The Sovereign Citizens Movement

BANDERA, Texas -- The Bandera County Sheriff's Office issued a warning Thursday to citizens about an anti-government movement known for acts of domestic terrorism.

The law enforcement agency said followers of The Sovereign Citizens Movement have been known to carry out violent acts, including killing law enforcement officers and other public servants.

The sheriff's office told KSAT-12 News the warning was prompted by the recent shooting death of Bexar County Sheriff's Deputy Sgt. Kenneth Vann."We have domestic terrorism right at our doorstep," said Capt. Charlie Hicks of the Bandera County Sheriff's Office.

Hicks said while there's no evidence Vann's death had any links to the Sovereign Citizens, it's the same type of crime followers are known for.

For example, in last May, a father and his teenage son opened fire on two police officers with an assault rifle during a routine traffic stop in West Memphis, Ark. News reports said the incident was sparked by the suspects' refusal to present a valid driver's license. The officers were killed in the shootout and the father and son died in a second shootout with officers a short time later.

"That's our main concern. Citizen safety and police officer safety in this area," Hicks said.

According to Hicks, followers of the anti-government, anarchist movement, share the belief that the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution has tricked Americans into becoming citizens of the United States and has offered them privileges, such as driver's licenses and other government benefits, which act as so-called hidden contracts through which Americans effectively have given up their sovereignty.

I agree! They train these cops with illegal wars where they go and rape and torture then come back here and do the same to Americans! Their should be a wait period for a solder to become a cop. Them getting PTSD and other problems. There should be a 10 year wait before they can become cops.

I could not agree more. Even better, make it illegal for combat troops to become policemen at all.

By that reckoning the US police should be considered domestic terrorists too, how many people have been killed by them that didnt do anything wrong. What about the execution caught on camera at a railway station or something like that where the kids was face down on the ground and got a bullet in his back.

I'd say the 'sovereign movement' but it appears to be people that just study history & law, as we are supposedly under the 'rule of law', anyway's theres no website or club to join..

jerry kane & son - the ones that shot the police after being pulled over with No License, 2 things. its reported that all there friends & family say they were traveling across the country helping people with their Forclosures. the Kanes believed many were fraudulant.. kind of one of the 1st to see the robo-signing mortgage frauds, i guess..

ATLANTA -- A state lawmaker from Marietta is sponsoring a bill that seeks to do away with Georgia driver's licenses.
State Rep. Bobby Franklin, R-Marietta, has filed House Bill 7, calling it the "Right to Travel Act."

In his bill, Franklin states, "Free people have a common law and constitutional right to travel on the roads and highways that are provided by their government for that purpose. Licensing of drivers cannot be required of free people, because taking on the restrictions of a license requires the surrender of an inalienable right."

Franklin told CBS Atlanta News that driver's licenses are a throw back to oppressive times. “Agents of the state demanding your papers," he said. "We’re getting that way here.”

CBS Atlanta's Rebekka Schramm asked Franklin, “How are we going to keep up with who’s who and who’s on the roads and who’s not supposed to be on the roads?”

“That’s a great question," Franklin said. "And I would have to answer that with a question, ‘Why do you need to know who’s who?’”
“What about 12-14-year-olds who want to drive? What would stop them?" Schramm asked.

“Well, what’s stopping them now anyway?” Franklin answered.
