Well one form of spontaneous combustion explained. Not that I believe what they are saying, without some one having a gas spectrometer to measure if indeed that was what was happening. Strange never the less.

SHC has always fascinated me, to think a human body can be reduced to ashes, bones and all, without setting fire to anything else, fck that's weird. this is a very interesting topic TOXIC, great post.
I haven't seen any other posts about SHC here since ive been with DTV, about 8 mths.

Im not sure about this little fella being a true case of SHC but who knows.
The most impressive cases are freaking unbelievable.

The temperatures required to incinerate a body cant be achieved by using flammable materials, and petrol or what ever would burn the whole fckn place down.

read on, its a bizzare mystery, :flop: TOXIC.

Spontaneous human combustion is the mysterious phenomenon of a person bursting into flame for no apparent reason. The flames burn very hot and are very localized. They destroy most of the body but leave objects in close proximity to the person relatively unburned.

This picture (bottom) is another case of spontaneous combustion that occurred in London in 1964. One compiled database states the following statistics on possible reported cases:

1950's - 11 cases

1960's - 7 cases

1970's - 13 cases

1980's - 22 cases

These are the remains of Dr. John Bentley (TOP) who died of spontaneous combustion in Pennsylvania in 1966. The spot where the body lay is burnt, but the rest of the room, including the toilet, was not even scorched. This shows a quick, hot flame that devoured the body in seconds. Only the bottom of one leg remained to identify this as a person. In the middle, is a picture of workers cleaning up the remains of Mrs. M H Reeser of Florida who apparently died of spontaneous combustion in July of 1951. The only remains found was her skull, shrunken to the size of an orange.

There are theories on this occurance but no one is sure how or why it happens. It does happen even without scientific explanation. One theory is ball lightning which would produce similar results, but many of these instances seem to rule out this possibility just by the location of the death. A majority of these deaths have the opposite characteristics that one would see if a person was burned to death, such as the shrinking of the skull.

Crematorium Specialist have viewed photos of combustion victims and say they cannot duplicate the complete destruction of bones in such a short period of time. They find it even harder to believe that this could happen so completely in ordinary rooms such as living rooms, bathrooms, etc. There are over 100 unexplained fire deaths a year just in England. If just ten of these deaths are spontaneous combustion, then the number world could be well over 100.

Does the body have chemical reactions that science has yet to discover ? It seems that an internal reaction of some kind is the most likely explanation for these deaths, but what triggers it ? Can it be detected ? Avoided ?

Good questions RatRodRob. :flop:

I remember that case of some japanese girl that drank bleach or something and made everyone around her
sick from the fumes her body was releasing as she was dying.
Not something I'd want to dig up.

Chemical reaction in the deceased bodies does seem like the most plausible explanation.

Just goes to show we are still learning about the human body and how it work. Just when we think we know it all along comes along something that makes us need to rewrite all the books about how the human body really works.

Wow. That's really weird. Someone tell me what the heck "tenth degree burns" are. Could that be a typo meaning third degree? I feel sorry for the poor little feller, but at the same time, if it IS true, and they can actually find out why it's happening…what a neat concept to finally find out what might cause Spontaneous Human Combustion!

I remember reading about the one where just the foot was left behind when I was a kid, and the one where the skull was shrunken. I don't even know how it's possible for a skull to shrink…I didn't think that it was. I also remember reading about one where a woman combusted hot enough to burn herself to ashes, but the chair she was sitting in was barely marked.

When I was 9, me and my grandpa saw ball lightning. In 9th grade science class, I told my teacher that and he mocked me in front of the whole class because ball lightning does not exist. By the time I was a sophomore in college and taking meteorology class…ball lighting was talked about in my text book. There are plenty of things out there that science is still learning about...

I guess you can comfort yourself with the idea that if it happens…it'll probably happen so fast that you won't even feel it. SHC people don't seem to freak out or thrash around or scream; it seems more like reading the paper one minute, poof the next. I've thought about it too, though, since I'm a drinker and a smoker.
