This is an off the cuff comment...

I feel DTV should have a grading system for topics and posts...I have said this before , but nothing happened.

Reason for this topic, is for those that want to have an opinion, but are scared or intimidated by the regulars.

How many times have you read a post and thought, that is awesome, and the next 5 posts bag the crap out of it, would you want to comment on something you enjoyed reading?! probably no.....

The digg thing is a waste of time...

I think people would really see who is who and whom is respected if we had a star and flag like system..

what do you think...lurkers please give at least a thumbs up if you agree.

Good point , However this forum is run on democratic grounds .
So how would these topics which promote the validity of " rods " or those that are unable to to distinguish between pigeons and ufo's be graded ?

I also notice that this thread is not in the hot topics column :headscratch:

what I mean is based on a Republic rather than a democracy, the individual matters rather than the mob....we have had mob rule for too long.

At least as it is now, i have the chance to defend myself.

I dont EVER bash new posters, i bash the crappy, flimsy and/or unsupported/unproven/disproven ideas and nonsense that many of them bring to the table from OTHER sources.

Although i will go after those that seem to have the need to mention my name consistently or take shots at me unwarranted. This system would only enforce that and does NOT delineate between a legitimate defense of myself or an idea and further institutionalize the fucking bullshit meme that somehow im running around trashing people without cause.

And this would only give power to people that hate common sense and the truth.

Great intent..lousy idea.

I mean damn, i got bashed for posting too much, and then when i back off, i get bashed for not talking to people ive interacted with in the past or not having contributed anything worthwhile lately..

The place has become a realm of the no win perception...ACTIVE ex-members trying to stir shit and libel all over the place so i gave up trying to figure it all out, and just dont give a shit anymore. I mean even the mods gave up. And then they got heat for giving up..lol

So the responsibility for screwing this place up has NEVER fallen on the right heads.

Some focus on that would have been nice actually.
But its too late, and a system like this wont fix that.

Actually, now that you mention it too..what IS screwing this place up..
Is placing this anonymous blame on "Regular Posters" for anything other than simply putting their opinions out there like everyone else.

It just so HAPPENS that if that opinion doenst include applauding nonsense theories, and anonymous whistleblowing strangers spouting crap without any evidence, or pretending to be people they arent or having knowledge they dont have...then well, someone can get off calling it BASHING..and then we are back to blaming the "regulars" as you put it..and making new posters afraid to post without any reason whatsoever.

Its those "regulars" who are the ones who actually SPENT all that time actually contributing to this place in the first place. Attempting to sort wheat from chaff..

Getting at the truth.

i think that if DTV got rid of the post count it would be a great equalizer.

i think that i am only as good as my last post......not my last thousand

if there was no obvious way to identify a post whore....the noobs wouldn't be so intimidated and we would have some fresh blood in the house.

we equate intelligence and give credence to those whom we perceive as being "more informed....or ..well versed"........the post count is a digital chaste system.

it is also unfair for the post whores because it seems that they are always fighting against the perception that they are "know-it-alls"....so they are prejudged by most of the noobs....and is is not fair.

another important thing that DTV should do is provide a more realistic welcome letter to all new members..........this letter should inform the noobs that in fact we do use curse words.....in fact we all (most) are prone to crass emotive responses sometimes.......warn them that some of us wordsmiths get a little bitchy sometimes..............but also to inform the noobs that even though we might tear them a new asshole from time to time...it doesn't mean that they should run away and hide......they should stay........because as much as some of us pretend to be haters...in actual fact we are just egotists and confidently opinionated.

a realistic welcome letter.....and the removal of post count from view (keep it in the control panel)...thats my two cents

as for the rating system...i think it is a bad idea because the obsessive or the scorned will abuse the system and crash threads for no reason other than petty crap (kinda like the video rating system)

I think post counts are fine.They let people know who are the resident loudmouths (like me), they can say as much as a post rating system.

Post counts carry no weight as far as a poster's credibility, if anything, they might speak in favor of the new voices.

If there is a common consensus in favor of post ratings, I'm OK with it, but I don't see the value.

Let well enough alone. This site is relatively open and healthy.

Please, no more regulation is necessary.

Becks, I respect you and your contributions. When I personally criticized the HH material, I never thought in terms of discrediting you. I can understand how you might have felt under fire for creating that thread - and I thought most replies were respectful and on-topic.

You have my respect. People who refer to me as a "subject" do not.

I just don't think there is a mob rule in effect here. If anything, it's an anarchistic whirlpool of doom
