Good Evening....
It has always been of great interest to me to see just where the DTVerse lands on
various subjects. Generally it is my rubrick to make commentary on more SIRIUS
matters, and after this post, that is where most likely the majority will pertain to, but
this caught the eye of certain associates and the question is presented for all
interested.....(I apologize if there is an earlier article regarding this subject on this
website..I tried to check for one.)
[b]William Shatner disses "Star Wars," says "Star Trek" is better: Who wins
the intergalactic debate?[b]
William Shatner is getting the geek world stirred up again.
The iconic "Star Trek" actor is taking George Lucas' "Star Wars" to task, dismissing
the film franchise as a "derivative" of his show.
The seemingly tongue-in-cheek interview was posted on the actor's YouTube
page last week.
" 'Star Trek" had relationships and conflict among the relationships and stories
that involved humanity and philosophical questions," he said in the video interview.
"'Star Wars' was special effects, was ILM at it's best.

It is a lighter subject, but any opinions are appreciated.

I like the original trilogy (starwars)
I loathe the prequel trilogy (starwars)
I think Wrath of Khan is the best star trek movie, that movie is raved about by trekkies but to be honest if that movie was outside of a franchise called trek, and I think it would just be considered middle of the road. I think the first Trek film had a fantastic concept yet put on screen in a very boring way.
Empire Strikes Back is considered by many to be a masterpiece of story telling, in no part due to Irvin. Lucas's mentor who was brought in to direct after Lucas had a breakdown.
In cinematic terms STARWARS wins, hands down.
I think though the age old debate between starwars and startrek is mute, seeing as treks glory days belonged to the TV show, not the films.
To be honest there are much better franchises out there.
Phaser or Lightsaber ?
Erm lightsaber, best fictional weapon ever created.
One day, we may have real ones.
That sound you hear is a grown man drooling.

Troll2Rocks...
What about ships? Millenium Falcon or U.S.S. Enterprise? Also, every time my day involves
a traffic jam on the highway my fondest wish is for my own personal "transporter beam."
(Off topic) FYI- Apparently your namesake movie is on EPIX tonight after
"Best Worst Movie".

Theres only one Millenium Falcon and lets face it, it's just a fast trailer in space. On the other hand there are multiple Enterprises to choose from and they are luxury battleships. I think i would prefer to have STTNG era one. Really i would only need the holodeck and counsilor Troi....

I like Star Wars better, but I do also like star trek...
There is much more to the SW story than is in the movies. It is a whole epic story and it focuses mostly on the duality of the universe...dark and light, evil and good, etc..
Some of the sith weren't bad, and some of the jedi weren't necessarily good.

The True Sons of Liberty are alive and well.
Мое сердце, мой спаситель, да будет свет.

Мое сердце, мой спаситель, да будет свет.

bias will divide opinions in the end, but a comparison is in order.
TV: TOS 3 seasons 1966–1969
TV: The Animated Series 1973–1974
Movie :Star Trek The Motion Picture 1979
Movie :The Wrath of Khan 1983
Movie :The Search for Spock 1984
Movie :The Voyage Home 1986
Movie :The Final Frontier 1989
Movie :The Undiscovered Country 1991
While the original cast were making motion pictures, In 1987
Star Trek The Next Generation hit TV and lasted 7 seasons.
TV: The Next Generation 1987–1994
Movie :Generations 1994
Movie :First Contact 1996
Movie :Insurrection 1998
Movie :Nemesis 2002
Also While The Next Generation was coming to an end. Deep Space Nine started in 1993.
Again, 7 seasons where aired.
TV: DS9 1993–1999
2 years after DS9 started, Star Trek Voyager Started in 1995. Again... 7 Seasons aired.
1995–2001
The end of Voyager, Introduced a new Star trek concept. Some liked others didnt, some learned to like it, Star Trek Enterprise. 2001, and aired for 5 seasons, before cancellation.
Ending 18 back to back years of Star Trek, starting in 1987.
In 2009 introduce a new film, and twist on the Star Trek universe
Movie : Star Trek 2009
(didnt care for this one.)
And a new movie in the works for 2013.
Now add many books and games.
Also a good side note is the cgi effects developed for Star Trek the next generation fueled a new era in tv and movie cinematic and cgi effects.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Movie :A New Hope 1977
TV: The Star Wars Holiday Special 1978
Movie :The Empire Strikes Back 1980
Movie :Return of the Jedi 1983
Made for TV Movie :Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure 1984
Made For TV Movie : Ewoks: The Battle for Endor 1985
Animation :The Great Heep 1986
Shortly after a bad divorce, and losing much of his wealth, and a boom in cgi tech, he eventually decided to return to the starwars storyline.
In 1993 Lucas began his prequel development.
Movie :The Phantom Menace 1999
Movie :Attack of the Clones 2002
Movie :Revenge of the Sith 2005
Animation : The Clone Wars 2008
Literature
1976 novelization of Star Wars (ghost-written by Alan Dean Foster and credited to Lucas). Foster's 1978 novel, Splinter of the Mind's Eye, was the first Expanded Universe work to be released. (wiki sourced)
there were other books, and games too.
Lucas bought an idea and ran with it, to some lame ends, ( see last 3 films for evidence )
Roddenberry inspired a couple generations before starwars had a conclusion in the mid 80s. and many more after.
It is ok to be a starwars fan, some aspects i like, but " handsdown" ( t2r
) star trek is far superior, just a few episodes of The Nest Generation, such as. "Who Watches the Watchers" "Darmok" "The Inner Light" "Parallels" and "All Good Things..." Just to name a couple, that outshine any story content that starwars brings to the table.
But that is my opinion.
