Sometimes in my zeal to keep on to the people that clutter this site with crap, lies, bullshit and timewasting,
I often forget to take a minute to show appreciation to guys like you for making this a place
to come to find good solid information, and providing explanations just like you did here...
That probably lends to my reputation as being an unredeemable asshole to some. Im really not.

Almost everytime ive read your stuff, i just think to myself..cool. and Move on.

I shouldnt do that...so ive been trying to make an effort to say thanks to the handful
of posters like you who really DO know what theyre talking about and take the time
to make a decent show of what you know...even when the mundane might not be
as popular as the Whooo! When taking your time will get you labelled disinfo, etc..

I say this because as ive been talking to some of the veterans around here in person,
we sometimes get into the discussion abut why were still here when the bullshit stream
has so much momentum..and we all agree, that its because of guys like you..
that take YOUR time to lend their expertise when it might not necessarily feel like it pays off to you.

Trust me, it does, and many many thanks for your time and effort all the times i never said it.

Well much appreciated...
My wife really hates my OCD behavior... so I try to keep a form of balance between information dispersal and time spent around the house or with my wife.

You know...I reached a point a few years ago (when I first started roaming this site) and realized the only thing I could possibly do is try to help distinguish fantasy from reality (to the best of my science and math abilities) and hope that the snow-ball effect takes place... spread some information that has validity and can be cross-referenced for others to either drink from the small pool of water or not...

I guess the idea was to pick things I know enough about to be "relatively" useful as we approach what I can only say are going to be "challenging times"... hopefully others will pickup in areas they feel comfortable attempting to give some form of explanation that will put others' minds at ease...relatively speaking that is.

We have so much paranoid concepts out there...some of which I cannot discount...that people who are looking for answers can form "temporary paranoid schizophrenia" (as I found out the hard way and had some very trying times about 2 years ago) due to the amount of worry and stress some of these concepts/ideas can inflict. Each person has a different threshold...but it can happen...and does not help anyone...here...at the home...workplace...or the like.

So... thank you for your inspirational words... I do actually spend a good chunks of the little free time I have trying to give some reasonable answers to those items that actually have "reasonable answers"...and will continue to pop-in from time to time and see if there is anything that can be clarified...for the sake of everyone...their minds...home...and mental health.

In the end... no matter what happens...we are all in the same "boat"...we might as well do what we can to help one another.

To answer your question... your destination whether at home or at another location should have the water already stored.

Places like this:
http://www.plastic-mart.com/class.php?cat=9

Or your local homedepot:
http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-100659465/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

Is where you can get barrels/tanks to store water.
The rain barrel is good for the obvious reason that if it rains you catch water...but they are bad because if there is an instance where if there is something "in the air" that could cause health issues then you need to create an evaporator in order to purify the water.

This is a pretty simple concept... build a fire or have something that heats... have some form of "catcher" that will catch the water particles as they evaporate...and then have a "run-off" from the "catcher" that drains the *clean* trapped water into a clean container. This does not work with radiation...

The other way is to just buy a very large water tank (i.e. depending upon number of people and math provided in this thread) and fill it with water that you know is "good"...then seal it...and don't touch it. Make sure that it is at your "final destiation".

I think the total cost (depending upon number of people) should be "relatively" affordable...and the cost of the water for the first time you fill it will either make your water bill spike for that month or cost a "pretty penny" if you buy it...(I would just fill it with regular tap water).

As a final side note, the rain catchers are actually useful in the event that water is "cut off"...rain water can be used for "ancillary" things like filling your toilet's tank...so keep that in mind as well...

As well, have a single multi-gallon mobile tank available...you can buy these almost anywhere they sell camping equipment. This is a "last ditch" item that would be used in the event that you had to leave your water supply for any duration and needed a way to transport at least "some water"...

Probably a combination of all above is recommended, but whatever you can afford is better than nothing.

Hope this helps...

Remember...nothing is set in stone as of today...we have warnings from NASA...we have an incoming comet that potentially will be spewing a gaseous cloud from its Coma's tail around September 26th onto the planet...but...in the end all of this is "new territory" for many of the "Scientific" community...so their guesses are the best they can guess...

Selling everything you have is obviously not the best path...but making sure you are able to be self sufficient to a certain degree will make you less of a burden to the rest of the population and might even put you in a position to help family, friends, and/or neighbors...

If September 26th comes and goes with no major issues and December 21st 2012 comes and goes with no major issues...well then so be it...good for everyone...however if something major happens between now and then with all that is known today and you are not prepared... well ... just be ready to deal with that issue and come to the realization that everyone around you that has prepared probably did so with a budget...so coming from a place of dire need (i.e. you haven't eaten a single thing in a few days and barely have had any water)...is not a good place to be...especially if the poop has hit the fan. The pain that comes from starvation is a very painful and agonizing process...your body starts eating itself...literally...and then when your hydration levels get below a certain point your digestive track literally stops...heavy constipation sets in...and gases from the rotting fecal matter make their way into your small intestines...and then finally into your stomach. Eventually your blood is so thick that you die from either a cardiovascular, respiratory, or organ failure...which is not a very fun thing to go through. There is plenty of information on this out there from places like Africa where people are going through this very thing right now as I type this...

Again...don't want to say anything is definitively going to happen...but the chances of something bad happening are much greater now than, in my opinion, we have had in a very long time...so coming to terms with this and understanding that it isn't a "panic" scenario...but more like a "Hey my tires are looking a bit worn...I should get those replaced."...is probably the best "type of attitude" to have.

With all of the strange weather and the like...depending upon where you live...it would be a shame to not have some form of "preparation" done even if it is just having food during a food crisis or hurricane or the after-math of a tornado strike...you have put yourself in a place of not being "needy" but being "self sufficient" so the rest of the people who decide to be a burden on the organizations designed to help during periods of crisis will be taken care of...

We are all in the same boat... so... I guess it is just up to you to decide what role you will play in the event a crisis does occur.

Stay smart, informed, do your own research, and realize that your emotional state is nothing more than your own personal choice of how you want to handle any given scenario...you can approach it with optimism or pessimism...joy/happiness or anger/hatred...it is all a matter of how you choose to emotionally be at any given point in time...

Me...personally...I choose to strive to be happy and content with each day...thankful as I wake and thankful as I go to sleep...as best I can...hopefully one day I will not have to remind myself of my own personal attitude and it will become "second nature"...and if we all choose this path...well...I couldn't help but think that our world might be just a bit easier on all of us.

Cheers,

-CN
