The kids not going to be registered as an offender..
And the OTHER thing that pisses me off, and only becuase my wife teaches, is the Right to address a situation in honest terms.
Becuase I would bet a thousand dollars, that if it wasnt the parents pushing her to not stand, then she was not doing it out of principle, but doing it to be a bitch. Yes kids do that. No you cant use it when discussing these lovely sensitive matters with administrators.
I bet that kid was being insubordinate and overtly disrespectful and HIDING behind the flag issue...rather than having any sort of conscious, principal minded objection.
Im just betting. Its one of those two issues.
I dont have any problem with them not standing either, which leads me even more strongly to believe the teacher probably made it more than it should be BECAUSE there was a discipline issue behind it...
And now shell have to apologize...which means the student won that round, if theres an issue between them.

The current version of the Pledge of Allegiance reads:
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Assuming the teacher pledges his allegiance to a flag and a republic that stands for liberty and justice for all; wouldn't it be in violation to this pledge to discipline, threaten and humiliate a child who refuses to do so?
What if this child was brought up to believe that her "God" is impartial to the actions of the nation she lives in? What if the child is being raised as an atheist for that matter? Can anyone who claims to be an atheist make this pledge as it is written in all sincerity?
The very notion of "justice for all" apparently doesn't apply to 13 year school girls.

the explanation is simple.some people are just fuckin' stupid.you can't fix that.
the teacher,that is.
the teacher,that is.

i am responsible for my own words, act and deeds
Wow, times have really changed. I once changed the pledge during homeroom when I was in highschool.
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the Soviet Union and Everything for which it stands..... blah blah blah" And that was in the 80's!
It earned me a trip to the office and had to prove that I knew the words, and got the lecture how many people died for my ability to speak freely...blah blah blah. I do remember we had a few 7th day Adventist freaks who refused to recite it for religious reasons.
America is DOA.

lol no i meant the guy, his name wasnt being released ..lol that why i said about the youth offenders act . ya you could have a point ., dont get me wrong i have had teachers that i held in high esteem and most of them that get called ball breakers or mean are simply teachers who actually give a shit about your life . but to some its a modicum of control and they relish that , and a student that is willful obviuosly infuriates them . perhaps she is making a statement and like you said is not led by her own beliefs ,but an outside influence . god knows we see it all the time in our kids , haha mtv, news, movies, websites. the whitewash i was reffering to is the inability of the media to put a face to the teacher .isn't the pursuit of truth what journalism all about ? ;lol well except for a few news and paper organizations .incidently my teacher ..mr. boat in grade 8 was hard on me , his reason because i was being a goofball and skipping alot and he did care about that .and to this day i still remember the speech he gave me ..lol he even sweared . great teacher though

LOL!@ changing the words! Hhaha! Yeah I think the girl's parents are most likely the ones influencing her to not recite it. I think making of issue of it the first time is what did the teacher in, because the teacher and student after that got locked into a power struggle or battle of wills. The teacher should have just ignored it or not made a big issue of it the first time and the kid would probably have gone back to saying it out of feeling silly being the only one sitting and not reciting it. I don't remember anyone ever refusing to say it when I was in school.

I love my country, but I refuse to follow these pigs who are making a mockery of everything we set out to become.
Enough said
.. this situation clearly shows american democracy and a free world at work...
And for the record, since i dont recall saying specifically, is that i think absolutely the teacher was dead wrong..mostly because i DO think it is against the law to force them to stand..its just I thought there had to be some sort of snap power struggle like you said Paper,..that would make her not think ahead to the consequnces, and so she pulled what she thought was her ace....The police officer.
And im having to MAKE this distinction because the SLOWER ones among us clearly cant seem to resist the chance to make anything American....a 'pig' issue..or a democracy issue...which is just oversimplified and ridiculous..and probably not even a part of the consideration. A snap call to regulate an obnoxious student without considering WHEN this was taking place....and nothing more. Because all teachers know that its against the law to force a student to stand. She just 'forgot' in the heat of the moment.
I bet that teacher does one of these:
