The Chinese translation from the news article is unclear, however, it appears to state that the item is made of bronze and has a traditional winder on the side.

Is really incredible, December 11, 2008, Shangsi County unearthed earlier "concrete" giant coffin grave side, but still found a "watch." On that day, the relevant archaeological experts and CCTV reporter came to inspect the giant coffin unearthed, the surprise emergence of this incredible thing.

On that day, CCTV two journalists and chairman of the China Research Society Tonggu, Guangxi, head of antiquities expert group, the original Museum of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region came to Mr. Jiang Tingyu Shangsi County, in late November on the county unearthed two coffins carried out inspection coverage. 11:00 about inspection reports group and his party arrived at the scene sarcophagus unearthed on the site and surrounding environment for the conduct of inspection, video, it was found that giant coffin (the smaller) unearthed a grave side there are about five kilograms of concrete (Giant Coffin made from concrete). Later in the dug up concrete debris那片suddenly fell from the concrete debris at the bottom of a metal goods, in falling down a rock face, the issue of metal percussive voice. Inspection team reported that one carefully to find a place in the fall found that a "ring."

Been identified that this "Ring" is the bronze, the same as the size of ordinary rings, "rings" watches surface shape, the clock and the minute hand points to 10:06, the edge is also wind-up watches as New Zealand. Hands will be "ring" a few internal wipe found plum-shaped depression carved patterns, which clearly engraved with "Swiss" two words, this is obviously a pocket of the "Swiss watch." "Watch" the strap is very long, with the ordinary ring ring different.

Experts believe that, in the case of objects used to the "watch", but the locals did not consider the physical autopoietic "pocket" metal manufactures custom. But also the world's first to wear a wrist watch was born in 1904 (the other is in 1918), just 100 of the history, the Swiss watches were introduced to China is only a matter for decades, with the age of the sarcophagus far apart. Items buried with the dead, if not to a strange land buried in the sarcophagus grave excavated soil side, and was later found that the probability is very small. In short, this "watch" what is the age of objects, used for what, how grave side in the soil, which is still a difficult to solve the mysteries.

On that day, Shangsi County conservation officer, to be shortly after the national experts to come to open a giant coffin Shangsi also join the "watch" to identify, then untie the mysteries.

I have to say though i would be more astonished if the watch recovered looked like those pictures just posted...At the moment the "watch" just looks like a little intricate carving...it does not work at all does it?......But that in itsel is intriguing,if this is not a hoax :bang;

The item looks quite small and could hardly fit the finger of an adult person.
The sharp edge of one of the open ends indicates that the bronze item could be used as an earring or for body piercing.
The other open end provides a clue that the said item could possibly be used as a pendant as well.

Title: Earring watch
Document Type and Number: United States Patent 4444515
Abstract: An earring watch comprises an enclosure 4 with a friction clip or pierced-earlobe hook for attachment to the ear. The enclosure contains an energy cell 18, a timekeeping circuit 42-46-48 and an audio transducer 40 for announcing the time in a series of groups of tones, the number of tones in each group equal to a respective digit of the time. The time is announced when the wearer touches one part of the surface of the enclosure twice, another part 6 of the enclosure is electrically connected to the body via the ear, so that the touch completes a circuit between the two parts of the enclosure. Preferably, and to avoid false readouts due to an inadvertent touch, the watch contains circuitry for providing a time readout only if it is touched twice within a predetermined interval.

Almost all modern watches have winder at 3 o'clock.
If this is the case, according to the photograph
the watch "stopped" at 4:36 am (or 16:36 pm),
but not at 10:06 am as reported in the news.
