The video shows a strange white and purple light shining against the inky black of the sky, which he claims must be a alien spacecraft using the fireworks as cover for an excursion into Swiss airspace.

It was filmed above the town of Binningen, Basel, on August 1, an official national holiday when the Swiss celebrate the establishment of their country’s Federal Charter of 1291.

Heinz Christian Tobler uploaded it to his YouTube channel that very night. He writes: ‘This is not a joke!

‘My wife and I were watching the fireworks on the Swiss National Day in our garden when we saw an UFO (sic).’

Mr Tobler explains how he captured the apparent spaceships flight across the Swiss sky using his Canon EOS 600D digital camera – a sensitive and hi-tech piece of consumer camera technology.

‘The craft was approached by a plane and moved away,’ he added. ‘You can see that in the movie. Also the way it moved can be seen.

‘I put the sequences with the UFO together: Between the cut there were about 3 minutes where the UFO was not seen.

‘It was probably disc or triangle shaped.’ UFO sightings are comparatively rare in Switzerland. Ufoinfo.com lists only 10 in the past eight years – not including Mr Tobler’s.

The excitable Mr Tobler admits that he could be mistaken in his conclusion that what he has seen is a genuine unidentified flying object – considering that it could perhaps be some kind of radio-controlled drone aircraft.

But if it was a drone, he asks, why does it react so swiftly to a plane which is also seen crossing the night sky near to its position?

‘If it was a remote controled toy the UFO movements are a strange coincidence. The way how it moved is like a toy drone.

‘So I want to find out what it really was. So far it is an UFO, an unidentified flying object.’

Looks to me as if someone is using a drone to film inside the fireworks display. It seems to move like one of these.
