Interesting, first Erdogan told that Syria had appologized, but now he is not sure anymore and that he doesn't know what happened. :lol:

It doesn't make any sense that Syria would first shoot down a plane and then later apologize for it. What DOES make sense is that perhaps a rogue element from inside Syria shot down the plane, and Syria is trying to cover it up without invoking the wrath of Turkey and NATO.

Things haven't always been peachy between Turkey and Syria. Anyone remember Abdullah Ocalan? Turkey is also an ally of Israel and will side with Israel if Syrian forces get cocky and try to take the fight outside their own borders.

While I was reading this thread, I thought the same thing. What was a Turkish fighter jet doing in Syrian airspace? You can bet your ass if a Syrian jet flew over Israel, it would get shot at.
And why pray tell, would Syria apologize for something it had the right to do?

Turkey locates bodies of downed jet pilots

Military says it found the bodies of both pilots of an F-4 jet shot down by Syria.

Turkey's armed forces command has said it had found the bodies of both pilots of an F-4 jet shot down by Syria on the seabed and was working on retrieving them.

The military has been conducting a search operation since the jet was downed on June 22 and this week brought in a specialised ship to recover the wreckage, some 1,000 metres underwater.

Turkey says it was hit in international airspace while Syria insists it was flying inside Syrian airspace.

The downing of the plane has worsened already tense Turkish-Syrian relations.
