If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

If you believe in an objective independent reality then yes the tree makes a sound.

If you believe in a subjective symbiotic reality then no.

I'll make a case for the subjective since that is what I believe. Sound is created by a disturbance in some medium. The tree creates rapid pulses of air when striking the ground. If someone is nearby the series of greater and lesser air pressure causes the eardrum to vibrate. Stimulated nerves send signals to the brain resulting in the cognition of a sound. A sound will only be heard (if I remember right) if the pules are between 20 and 20k times a second. At 15 times a second it will not result in the perception of sound. Pulses of air then do not constitute a sound. An observer, an ear, and a brain are as necessary for the experience of sound as the pulses of air. A tree falling in a an empty forest only creates silent pulses of air.

The difficulty with this is usually being able to take yourself out of the equation. To continue to imagine yourself there when you are not.

at school, i detested maths above all other subjects, and with good reason. i was hopeless at it. i still am, so the presented (presumed) mathematical equation simply doesn't register. in short, i don't know

It's not about the maths. It's about how you see the your place in the whole. The maths is just an expression. It's like short hand to describe what you hear or see. It's not the only way to understand what a round you. I am not a crafts man in the practical way. But I wish I could be. We use what we have. That doesn't mean I devalue in anyway other way's of contributing to the greater development of our society. for fuck sake I wish I could create a sculpture or make a pot or build a house, I would love to have those skills. We all contribute in our own way. Nobody is any better than anybody else.. Unfortunately we have allowed a small part of our sociality to assume they are better than other contributes. Bring back the guillotine. The French did get some things right...LOL

Ok as long as you include the harmonic wave functions of society and demonstrate the destructive and constructive oscillation of positive and negative thoughts. I would end your equation by introducing the following.
