What disturbs me the most is that it's a French woman whining about how she'll be a real rebel and wear her full face veil. Like, someone who most likely grew up not having to swath her entire body in black wool and cover her evil lustful woman face, but who picked the habit up in adulthood, probably to please some man. And if she has any daughters, I'm sure she'll cram them in it too.

I saw a woman here last year, in the summer when it was 100F in the shade, she came into the store where I worked and she was wearing a full on burqua like something out of a National Geographic shoot. (Not to sound dumb, but this is a shitthole military town in the middle of the American south, not exactly a place where there are lots of international visitors.) At first the sight of her was so out of place to me that I suspected I might be having an acid flashback. There are muslim women here, lots of them, and they wear head scarves and sometimes long modest dresses but I'd never seen someone kitted out in the whole black heavy shebang complete with the heavy mesh over the mouth. And it gets HOT here, like moist tropical heat index of 112, earlier I'd walked to the trash in shorts and a t-shirt and almost sweat to death myself. I thought to myself that she must be miserable hot. I felt bad for her. I was extra nice and smiley when she came up to pay for her stuff. I figured people might be being nasty to her because of the way she looked and that she couldn't help it, it was her culture. There was a kid with her, a teenage boy about 16 wearing shorts and flip flops and a Tupac t-shirt. He was carrying her money for her and gave it to her so she could pay for her items. And when I thanked her and she thanked me back....her accent was as North Carolina country as my own. She was 100% American, sounded like she was from right down the street born and raised. It pissed me off. She wasn't forced culturally from the time she was a little girl to put that damn thing on...she chose to do so for some reason. Cover herself like she was shameful, voluntarily, and let some smirking kid hold her money for her and all that other stuff that the burqua symbolizes, of her own free will. In a world where every day women are dying to get out from under that oppression.

It probably makes me a bad person to say it and I'll probably be called a racist and I don't care. I just don't understand why. Except, usually when women do something that stupid a man is involved. I'm not saying that a person can't have a religious conversion, a real spiritual epiphany. Maybe the problem is with my understanding of it. And in any case, she has the right to wear it just as I thank god have the right not to. People get jollies out of all kinds of degradation, S&M and watersports and doms and subs and whatever trips your trigger. I understand what the French are trying to do for women, and on one hand I say good on em. But what happens when the women you're trying to protect are the ones screaming for what you're trying to protect them from? It's the women of the village who circumcise the little girls in places where that shit still goes on, just like someone did to them when they were a helpless child, and they are the ones who can't let it go.

How do you determine who is being forced to wear the thing and who wants to cover up?
Remember, in a real conspiracy, all players are pawns regardless of their rank.
