Potsdam Giants
Image
Prussia (blue), at its peak, the leading state of the German Empire.
The Potsdam Giants was the Prussian infantry regiment No 6, composed of taller-than-average soldiers. The regiment was founded in 1675 and dissolved in 1806 after the Prussian defeat against Napoleon. Throughout the reign of the Prussian king Friedrich Wilhelm I of Prussia (1688-1740) the unit was known as the "Potsdamer Riesengarde" ("giant guard of Potsdam") in German, but the Prussian population quickly nicknamed them the "Lange Kerls" ("Long guys").
the Potsdam Grenadiers Guards, the regiment of giants, recruits for which were sought throughout Europe. Most towered above seven feet, and a few even exceeded eight feet. Each guard wore a pointed hat to look even taller. Exceptionally tall men were unceremoniously press-ganged: a scandal was caused when an Italian priest was dragged from his altar by Frederick William's over enthusiastic agents and when an Imperial diplomat was shanghaied.Foreign heads of state learned that they could get the king of Prussia to sign treaties in their favor if they sent him a few giants as a gift. Eventually he acquired two thousand giants by hook or by crook, but the price in suffering was high. These poor Potsdam freaks lived under terrible conditions, and morale was dreadful. Most of the guards were forced to serve for life, so about 250 deserted every year, while others committed suicide. The king even tried mating his Grenadiers with lofty women, a failed experiment which presaged the later Lebensborn programme of the SS.

At the beginning of the last century, against the wall of the old Potsdam Castle still stood the measure the King used for his giant Guards.

Potsdam Grenadiers Guards are a great example of breeding, the acients as well must have tryed this seeing animal domestication was way of life, and alot of armys were lead by a giant, like in the movie 300

Legend: Churning of the Milk Sea - "Temple walls relate an ancient Hindu legend"

The widely known epic of Indian mythology, the Brahmanist legend of the Churning of the Sea of Milk, is as intrinsic to Khmer culture as it is on the subcontinent, and the mysterious but beautiful images of the story are commonly seen in Cambodian temples. In fact, Cambodia has adopted this religious epic, given it a distinctive flavor and made it the mother of those haunting Khmer icons, the Apsaras.

Most temples in the kingdom will have some reference to the legend, whether it be a balustrade in the shape of a long snake held by dozens of gods and demons, a depiction of the three-headed elephant Ai Ravoan or a brightly painted scene of the churning pole balanced on the back of the god Vishnu's incarnation as a giant turtle. An entire gallery at Angkor Wat is dedicated to an incredibly intricate and beautiful rendition of the story, a work which has been called the greatest scene ever carved in stone.

The story is simple in its line and complex in its meanings. Several Brahmanist epics tell the story of Vishnu's second avatar, or incarnation, as Koromeak, the giant turtle, and how the goddess Lakshmi was born from the womb of the ocean.

Ta Prohm temple in Takeo province.

Why the gods began their churning is a matter for debate. Some say they needed to recover precious jewels lost in a great deluge, some that they had grown weak and old and needed the elixir of life, amrita, to be churned from the sea to save them, and others that the sage Durvasa had given the god Indra a gift of a garland of ethereal flowers, which Indra had not respected and allowed to be trampled under his elephant's feet, causing Durvasa to curse him to become void of all riches. Shri, or Lakshmi, goddess of riches, then disappeared into Kshirasagar, the sea of milk, and needed to be recovered from its womb by the gods.

For whatever reasons they decided to commence, however, it became obvious after a thousand years that the gods could not churn it successfully on their own. They sought the advice of Vishnu, and he advised them to collude with the demons. They agreed, and the divine mountain, Mount Mandara, was laid in the ocean, a churning pole placed on top and the great serpent Vasuki coiled around it. Gods took one end of Vasuki, demons the other and they proceed to twist the snake back and forth to churn the sea.

The bas-relief at Angkor Wat shows this scene, with 92 giants, or demons, at Vasuki's head (the giants have the bulging eyes and the helmets) and 88 gods (they can be distinguished by their Khmer-shaped eyes and conical helmets) at his tail. Vishnu appears in both his four-armed human incarnation and as the sacred turtle, Koromeak, in the depiction. What is most haunting from the scene is the depiction of the ethereal Apsaras, floating above the sea and dancing for the gods and demons alike.

The Sea of Milk legend also appears at other temples in the complex, although each period has a different style and way of carving the main characters. "Carvings of the Churning of the Sea of Milk are seen in all temples of the Angkorian period until the end of King Jayavarman VII's reign in 1220AD," Chan Pheak Kdei, Director of Cultural Tourism Development of the Ministry of Tourism, says. "But the style of carving differs through the 11th, early 12th and 13th centuries. And of all the carvings of this legend, only the piece on Angkor Wat's eastern wall has the most beautiful, low bulging styles, with all the gods in depicted in character as they are portrayed in their divinity tales, or legends."

The legend inscribed on the walls of Angkor.

The legend explains that the Sea of Milk was once a Sea of Smoke. One day, a sacred cow emerged from the sea, radiating a light brighter than 1000 suns and appearing larger than the sacred mountain. Its light put the 1000 horses of the royal carriage to sleep, and the gods were forced to go to see Lord Vishnu to ask what could be done. Vishnu floated up to the level of the cow's face on his lotus flower, but when he looked, the cow had become a beautiful nymph. She said, "I will offer you three wishes". "I need only one," said Lord Vishnu, "Turn this sea of smoke into a sea of milk so that any being that drinks of it no longer feels hunger or thirst." She agreed, and that is how the Sea of Milk began.

As the gods and demons churned to find treasures, a celestial cow, the divine four-headed horse named Ochai Svarak (the horse also represents the five Buddhist commandments not to kill, steal, to take someone's wife, to lie or to drink alcohol) emerged, along with the three headed elephant Ai Ravoan, and a nymph called Sriel Ksei, but before they could find the amrita elixir of life or the goddess Lakshmi, the churning stick faltered and became unstable.

The group of gods had moved to hold the serpent's belly instead of his tail, and he began to sway, creating a storm that could destroy the universe. Preah Indra and Preah Brahman could not stop it so Preah Vishnu invited the monkey king Viroskab from Nokor Hem Voan Kiri. The monkey king respected only Preah Vishnu, but he agreed to hold Vasuki steady so work could continue. His efforts made his body red like fire, so he was renamed Mohaa Chumpou, or the Great Pink.

Another disaster quickly followed. Mount Mandara began to sink and neither the gods nor the giants, nor even Vasuki could stop it. To make things worse, the snake felt sick from the churning, and vomited venom called halek halak into the water which threatened to kill gods and demons, or giants, alike. Preah Shiva saved them from this, using his hand to scoop up the venom and then swallow it. The venom burnt his throat to a very dark red, and the group offered him the new name of Preah Nilton because of this. To save Mount Mandara, Vishnu turned himself into the turtle Koromeak and swam underneath the stick so that stability could return and churning could recommence.

But there was a problem with one of the demon giants, who wanted to outsmart the gods. The gods and giants had agreed that if amrita was found at the giant's end of the snake, the giants could drink it and take its powers of immortality, and vice versa. One giant, named Reahou Asoret, had decided he would not help churn, but wait outside to see when the amrita came out so he could run to drink it immediately, before anyone else. Vishnu was suspicious and asked the sun and moon to watch him carefully while they worked. Suddenly, the churning produced the sacred water of amrita and an Apsara, or celestial dancer, at the same time. But the sacred water emerged at the side of the giants and the Apsara appeared with the gods. Vishnu ordered the Apsara, called Dilotama, to dance and trick them into watching her, and they were captivated. At that moment, Reahou Asoret seized the amrita and drank. The sun and moon yelled a warning to Vishnu, and Vishnu threw his sharpened discus at the thieving giant, severing his head and hands before the water could reach his stomach. That's why to this day Reahou Asoret has only a head and hands-because the water of life only reached as far as these parts. Furious that the sun and moon had betrayed him, Reahou Asoret made a vow of revenge.

"It does not matter, sun and moon," he told them. "From this day on, I will swallow you at night when we meet at night and I will swallow you in the daytime when we meet in the daytime."

Reahou Asoret then became the deity in charge of eclipses, and is often pictured with the sun in his hands, ready to swallow it, and that is why we have eclipses to this day.

I like the north american giant section

According to the Cocopa Indian tribe, giants of the past were able to carry logs that six of the humans failed to budge. Humans can roughly carry twice their body. The average human weighs 150 pounds (carrying weight of 300 lbs in group) times six humans, you now have the ability to carry 1,800 pounds. Now let us take into account that these six humans could not move the logs, and then they would have weighed well over 1,800 lbs. These giants were carrying 1,800 pound logs with ease. Super human strength is often attributed to the Nephilim.

Giants are a malignant race who flourished in primordial times before they were brought into check by the great spirits. Although they would frequently sojourn on the island earth where humans live, their home is in a Spiritland on the other side of the Ocean Sea. Since two Wolf Spirits reached it floating on a small ice berg, it apparently lies in the arctic north. There the wind blows cold and fierce, and the ground can be covered in snow. On the other side of the ocean, tribes of Giants flourished. Some of them protected their mortality by removing their hearts and wrapping them in bundles of feathers which they hid away on a platform. These Giants were killed by the Thunderbird, Ocean Duck, who found their hearts and burned them to ashes. Like other spirits, the Man Eaters can be divided into two tribes: the Good Giants and the Bad Giants. Most seem to have belonged to the tribe of Bad Giants who indulge their appetite for human flesh, but the Good Giants have belied their name by abandoning the practice of eating people. Originally, they too had eaten people, but the spirit called "Young Man Gambles Often" (Hotcîtcîwagiogega), caused them to vomit up everything within them, until finally they disgorged ice from their stomachs. This it was that caused them to eat humans. After that, they enjoyed the same food that humans ate. While the stomachs of Giants contain ice, their heads contain wampum, which is to say, sea shells.

Not only are the Giants by nature man eaters, as their Hotcâk name Wángerútcge reveals, but male Giants are as tall as trees, four times the height of a man. On the other hand, Giant women, who are particularly noted for their beauty , are about the same size as humans. Despite the hostility and dietary proclivities of Giants, humans are part Giant themselves. Once humans were smaller and rather uniform in size. In ancient times men took Giant women as brides, and over time the admixture of the two bloods produced a race of variable heights such as we are today. Particularly large humans merely take after their Giant ancestors. Some large human men are thought to be reincarnations of Giant Spirits, usually of the Good Giant tribe, judging by their benevolence. One cannibal Giantess, some call "Pretty Woman," had hair said to be, variously, red , orange , or yellow. Despite her superior skill in lacrosse, her life was spared by the victorious good spirits, and she was adopted into human society. In one account she marries Redhorn's father; in another, Redhorn himself.

The Man Eaters have a mysterious association with ice. Redhorn's father gave his Giant wife, Pretty Woman, an emetic which forced her to vomit up an ice cube. This was found to be the cause of her cannibalism. There was a race of such man eaters known as "Ice Giants," who in winter would appear around the periphery of villages hoping to pick off people who strayed too far from the campfire. The Ice Giants were unconquerable by mere mortals, but they could be placated by offerings of tobacco, red feathers, and food, which were offered in the early evening. The Giants, being confident of their command of the ice, once challenged an incarnated Wolf Spirit to a contest to see who would first succumb to the cold. The Wolf Spirit won the contest because he was able, unlike the Giants, to radiate heat whenever he sat atop a mound of snow.

Human beings were the favorite food of the Bad Giants who would go to some lengths to get it. On occasions they massacred whole villages in order to eat the inhabitants. Like other man eaters, such as the Bad Thunderbirds they would let some people live just to fatten them up so that they would be all the tastier later. Good, fat humans, apparently make excellent soup as well. When the Giants wanted to "eat soup," as they put it, one way to get it was to challenge the humans to games of chance. These games, however, were not idle sport, but contests in which lives were wagered on the outcome. If the humans won, they would kill the Giants wagered; if the Giants won, they would kill and eat the humans that they had won. Since the Giants were so large, they almost always won when they played against mortal humans. As a result, many of the good spirits, taking pity on the abused humans, would descend to earth and give them their aid. Turtle, the spirit who invented war, was the most prominent and active of these. When the Giants prepared to engage in games or in war, they would generally paint themselves black from head to toe , although on other occasions, they were known to have painted themselves completely red. One of their favorite games was dice. To get their dice, a Giant would pound his chest and cough up birds, which he would then throw up into the air like regular dice. In keeping with the icy associations of the Giants, the species was usually the snowbird. One of the most popular contests was lacrosse. The Giants would often be led by an amazon like Pretty Woman. Nevertheless, in whatever game they engaged, they were almost always defeated by the good spirits , the single exception being wrestling. Although they were never able to out-wrestle Turtle, they were able to defeat both Redhorn and the Thunderbird, Storms as He Walks. On another occasion they out-wrestled a white Wolf Spirit, then killed and ate him. When Morning Star came to earth, he also faced a challenge from the Giants to wrestle. As a warm-up, he grappled with an oak and pulled the entire tree out by the roots and slammed it to the ground. This so frightened the Giants, that they fled and ceased to bother the humans for decades. Once when Turtle and Morning Star were on earth to help the mortals, they nearly wiped out the race of Giants, sparing only an old man, a little boy, and an infant girl, whom they forced to eat grass. After this indignity, they threw them across the sea. More than once the competing Giants were wiped out with the exception of just two individuals.

Alaska

Ivan T. Sanderson, a well-known zoologist and frequent guest on Johnny Carson's TONIGHT SHOW in the 1960s (usually with an exotic animal with a pangolin or a lemur), once related a story about a letter he received regarding an engineer who was stationed on the Aleutian island of Shemya during World War II. While building an airstrip, his crew bulldozed a group of hills and discovered under several sedimentary layers what appeared to be human remains. The Alaskan mound was in fact a graveyard of gigantic human remains, consisting of crania and long leg bones. The crania measured from 22 to 24 inches from base to crown. Since an adult skull normally measures about eight inches from back to front, such a large crania would imply an immense size for a normally proportioned human. Furthermore, every skull was said to have been neatly trepanned (a process of cutting a hole in the upper portion of the skull).
In fact, the habit of flattening the skull of an infant and forcing it to grow in an elongated shape was a practice used by ancient Peruvians, the Mayas, and the Flathead Indians of Montana. Sanderson tried to gather further proof, eventually receiving a letter from another member of the unit who confirmed the report. The letters both indicated that the Smithsonian Institution had collected the remains, yet nothing else was heard.

ARKANSAS

In 1921, an Arkansan named Rowlands was digging in one of the many gravel pits on a line of small hillocks known as Crowley's Ridge, located two miles north of Finch. At a depth of 10 feet, Rowlands' shovel suddenly struck something large and solid. The object appeared at first to be a boulder, but excavating around it, Rowlands soon discovered that it was a large rock-sculptured head of a man. It stood about 4 feet high, and the figure had a squared, protruding chin, small, tight-lipped mouth, a short nose, and a furrowed brow and stare accented by two flat "buttons" of inlaid gold for eyes. Two more
gold discs ornamented the figure's ears, and a heart-shaped plug of copper was embedded in the chest. The top of the head was covered by a carved hood that draped down the nape, and attached to a piece around the neck. Near the head, and in the same layer, Rowlands dug up a number of smaller objects: a gold ring, a small coffer made of volcanic pumice (which does not exist in this region), and tiny carvings of men, animals, moons and stars. The head and artifacts soon became a local attraction, and the newspapers dubbed the glowering figure "King Crowley." Several investigators authenticated the find, though they could not explain its presence in the ten-foot layer of gravel - geologically dated at 175,000 years. The head and objects were sent to the Arkansas Natural History Museum in Little Rock. The museum curators, who also examined the artifacts and had double-checked and documented their discovery, were confident in the findings' authenticity to place them on public display. At the same time, however, some of the small carving samples were mailed to the Smithsonian in Washington. The Smithsonian - being a far more conservative institution -described the carvings as truly "unexplained items," but could not reconcile the antiquity of the strata in which they had been brought to light. Finally, after fifteen years of
vacillating on the subject, orthodoxy triumphed: The Smithsonian concluded that the Crowley Ridge artifacts could not be 175,000 years old as this contradicted established theory on the age of human civilization, and therefore declared the artifacts fakes. Conforming to this prestigious conservative pronouncement, the Little Rock museum promptly took the stone head and other objects off display, and eventually sold them to unnamed private collectors. The "King Crowley" had was shipped off to
California, and the rest of the collection was similarly scattered to the four winds. Today, the location of even a single object is unknown.

California

The bones of a twelve foot tall man were dug up in 1833 by a group of soldiers at Lompock Rancho,California. The skeleton was surrounded by giant weapons, and the skull featured a double row of teeth.

In 1833, soldiers digging at Lompock Rancho, California, discovered a male skeleton 12 feet tall. The skeleton was surrounded by caved shells, stone axes, other artifacts. The skeleton had double rows of upper and lower teeth. Unfortunately, this body was secretly buried because the local Indians became upset about the remains.

Miners in Lovelock Cave, California, discovered a very tall, red-haired mummy In 1911 This mummy eventually went to a fraternal lodge where it was used for "initiation purposes."

In 1931, skeletons from 8 ½ to 10 feet long were found in the Humbolt lake bed in California

A giant found off the California Coast on Santa Rosa Island in the 1800s was distinguished by its double rows of teeth

1851 that a businessman named Hiram de Witt had brought back with him from a trip to California a piece of auriferous quartz rock about the size of a man's fist, and that while showing the rock to a friend, it slipped from his hand and split open upon hitting the floor. There, in the center of the quartz, they discovered a cut-iron nail, six-penny size, slightly corroded but entirely straight, with a perfect head. the quartz was given an age of over one million years.
