Here's a fascinating documentary looking at the use of mediums/oracles in Tibetan Buddhism:

Cloaked in secrecy for over 400 years, the State Oracle of Tibet has been a strange and mystical aspect of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. This ancient spirit, which has inhabited a succession of thirteen human mediums, advises the Dalai Lama on matters of public and religious policy. To witness the eerie spectacle of a medium entering a trance state and being possessed by the Oracle is to confront profound questions about the very nature of human consciousness.

With permission from the Dalai Lama that had never been granted before, The Oracle explores the ancient practice of consulting spirits.

The last 10 minutes of the film features what must be fairly exclusive footage of the Dalai Lama himself consulting with the religion's three main oracles, and then discussing how he uses their 'talent'.

mmh, will watch, interesting.

even if it's bs channeled stuff, which i doubt, then it's good to know either way, as the dalai lama is involved, and him endorsing things one way or another is good to know about, as it being found out to be true or false, will tell you whether or not to believe in him in the future?

And to see that whoever he is in contact with, or opposes, may or may not be a liar/truthspeeker, according to whether this video turns out to be true or false.

these are the kinds of things that cannot be "proven" just as any good(real) psychic, because the art has nothing to do with rigid 'facts'.

Why?:
Any psychic that tells you something about a specific date is making it up. The art of prediction is either directed at a specific individual in which the 'data' involves bodily areas of interest such as darkness in the left knee, or energy work such as a dark spirit attached to someone most likely causing bad luck with love or money or whatever the case may be. Or, directed at a specific event, along the lines of 'during winter' or 'in the near future'. Like possible paths laid out before someone or 'us'. Love and "good"(as well as "bad) situations can be predicted by seeing two lines of light/love(or darkness) crossing or drawing close to the current path being lived.

This is of course how I am familiar with the practice, though there are many different approaches to the same subject.

The Dalai Lama doesn't ask for help with his accounting, it's no doubt guidance along the lines of political interactions, what to be wary of, who to watch out for, changes in the energy of the planet and his country over the course of the coming year and ways to make the best of it.

I doubt if a new video of the ceremony will surface anytime in the next few years, and I doubt the full transcript of what the Oracles say would ever be made open in any sort of detail.

The camera mans account with being gazed open by the Oracle is the most interesting part of the documentary in my opinion. A personal experience is worth a million words.

Western philosophy has another name for this...fraud.

It might be entrenched and traditional, it might even be so entrenched the players believe it to be truth themselves after so long, for it to be anything else after this length of time, and cultural investment would be religious suicide for the entire Buddhist movement...but a fraud nonetheless is my opinion.

The 'oracles' can only travel around Tibet? Why no reports of these Oracles routinely possessing people from other places then? Why no president, Prime ministers, Kings, Queens, high-profile people giving live interviews, have never started to move and shake and gnash their teeth like this?

Because only Tibetans and Buddhists have a reason to propagate this subject, the same way any other religion uses its own myths and traditions to keep the hooks into their own gullible 'flocks of sheep', to keep themselves going.

And a prick with a PhD, is still very much a prick..only one that can remember enough of the babble from lectures to obtain his or her PhD.

There are some amazingly educated people 'on paper', who are amongst some of the most incredible thickos i've ever come across during my life. Same thing in the business world too.

All religions, like much of commercialism in business is essentially controlling, cannabalistic organisations, lead and managed by controlling personalities which feed on the gullibility, in order to perpetuate themselves, of those that require 'imaginary friends' as emotional supports, or the 'flocks' as many religions like to openly call their supporters.

Unlike the many many bs channellers that are amongst us in the western world these people know what they are doing, setting aside the ego.
It's not as much a Buddhist tradition, as it is a shamanic tradition, based on experience what works and what doesn't work.
The Dalai Lama listens to the oracle but makes his own decision.

I agree with the over all generalization of religions that you stated. Though there is one thing going for this cultures beliefs than the rest. That would be Chi, most certainly.

I am not a devout buddhist, and I cannot read their language so I rely on translations. Though I find their philosophy certainly more interesting and "enlightening" than european religions.

Too my knowledge also, they cannot posses other people in the same sense that an entity can posses them. Or at least they do not view that as proper.

I mean, if the U.S saw Obama flopping around screaming some foreign language, we would call him senile and stick him in a mental clinic. End of story. There is also the whole belief placebo effect also.

A leading scientist (video is on here somewhere) stood up to the leading chi masters knock down moves, when he put down a handful of people just briefly before the scientist went through the experiment. Much in the same sense, becoming a glass of orange juice works when freaking out on LSD. You get your self to believe with out a doubt, that you are orange juice, and voila your mind is definitely strong enough to make it a reality. (which is certainly a key somewhere in terms of divine enlightenment. - the mind that is.)

As to why these oracles do not travel out side their specific regions, and accepted areas is because of that same reason. The buddhist culture is surrounded by Islam, and Hinduism (buddhisms older brother, as well as other religions I assume.) and I am sure the buddhists are not trying to start offense with either of them, specifically because of the repercussions that we all know would follow. (simply imo.) False oracles are a dime a dozen over there though, and that would also be why the Dalai lama asked people who followed him not to follow others in the same manor. This could be because he is trying to accomplish the same objective as the other guy, though the Dalai Lama does not make his living off other peoples money looking for joyful future times, or to know what their life will be. Like stated in the movies, his trance sessions are not broadcasted, and generally only viewed by his fellow monks.

So if the spirit world can certainly be a vast realization amongst cultures(from the past) who have never had direct contact with each other though all speak of similar ideals then there can certainly be a direct correlation to Chi and these realms also. If anyone believes in Gaia, we all know the Chi would be the life 'force' that binds us together. If it binds us together, it must also certainly have some contributing part in binding the next dimensions together also.

Another good example of this energy from what I have seen. Is what the Islams will do the ceremony where they are able to inflict bodily harm with no major repercussions through a heavy trance.
