The "Rare Earth" Theory: Human Logic and Math Says It's Wrong -We're Not Alone in Universe
Rareearth3 There is no hope of finding alien life in space because conditions on all other planets are too hostile, according to Howard Smith, a senior astrophysicist at Harvard/ Smith made the claim after an analysis of the 500 planets discovered that showed extreme conditions found so far on planets discovered outside out Solar System are likely to be the norm, and that the hospitable conditions on Earth could be unique.
“We have found that most other planets and solar systems are wildly different from our own. They are very hostile to life as we know it,” he said.

The Drake equation states that:

where:
N = the number of civilizations in our galaxy with which communication might be possible;
and
R* = the average rate of star formation per year in our galaxy
fp = the fraction of those stars that have planets
ne = the average number of planets that can potentially support life per star that has planets
fℓ = the fraction of the above that actually go on to develop life at some point
fi = the fraction of the above that actually go on to develop intelligent life
fc = the fraction of civilizations that develop a technology that releases detectable signs of their existence into space
L = the length of time for which such civilizations release detectable signals into space.

We know of life existing in extremely harsh environments right here on earth. Life exists in both extreme temperatures, and extreme- to us, chemically toxic- environments in undersea volcanic exhaust, and far below the ice at the poles- for example .This knowledge alone, would seem to render the senior Harvard astrophysicist's judgment questionable, to say the least. (first paragraph)
As the header states, basic logic says that the theory is wrong. Senior astrophysicist? Harvard? Really???? (Scratches head in amazement.)

It seems to me that mankind is missing the galactic party....looks like the others dont like us very much.
maybe we did some terrible shit in ancient times

Well that raps that up then , lets just stop looking then, now that a stupid American scientist has obviously visited all 500 systems in his space ship and detected no life present, with his his life detecting device. No point looking at the other 100 trillion stars I suppose (if he hasn't been already) .

They're not necessarily "pissed" at us, Marduk.

A civilization of sufficient age would require all the energy produced by its star.

Yes. Exactly. Well, either that, or paid very well for their "support."
"Life as we know it?" Ohhhh, that's right. We're only looking for "life, as we know it."
