I've often wondered this. For modern day Illuminati conspiracies it seems it was the John Birch society in the 60s which popularised it. Pat Robinson (televangelist) also wrote about it. Henry Ford, it seems, in the 1920s kept the idea alive. Some dubious (some would say) originators of the myths and folklore that makes up the Illuminati story.

I don't think the symbols are bad. It's a double edged sword in my opinion. Its the things they associate the symbol with, or the reaction/energy they're trying to get from people.

for example.
as a young child, you are taught that the ringing of a bell means dinner time.
as a prisoner, you are taught the ringing of a bell means time to go mine in the shafts.

you're kind've asking for an expert in: anthropology, occult symbolism of many ancient cultures of the globe & etc..

so typing 'occult sybolism' into google
