The Supermoon is Upon Us

Skywatchers take note: The biggest full moon of the year is due to arrive this weekend.

The moon will officially become full Saturday at 11:35 p.m. EDT. And because this month's full moon coincides with the moon's perigee — its closest approach to Earth — it will also be the year's biggest.

The moon will swing in 221,802 miles (356,955 kilometers) from our planet, offering skywatchers a spectacular view of an extra-big, extra-bright moon, nicknamed a supermoon.

Tell me that's real time Proto. If it is that's awesome. Missed the early show, but I'm up early to catch the latter. Hope it's clear so I can post pics

Tried to get a bunch of people to take pics of it, since all we had was cellphones, the pictures just came out as a really bright circle. ... :(

Horizon effect, it appears 30% bigger, when close to the horizon, because you have objects to compare the size to, it tricks your brain into making it look bigger.

Considering the super moon is about 25-26% bigger, that means it would be almost 60% bigger near the horizon

It's raining here, otherwise I would have my telescope out, considering there is Meteors from Halleys comet's tail coming towards earth today also.

This is about accurate.

The top photo looks close to mine from last year during the supermoon:

The bottom picture looks exactly like how you would see it through a telescope, a giant snowball with massive craters.

This whole topic is as much BS as every network channel on TV.

I watched this supposed closest encounter with earth moon, and as I watched it rise over the trees, I'm thinking to myself - CHRIST - I seen bigger moons a year or so ago.

We are being misdirected.

Check the path. Check the orbit. Check the atmospheric conditions.

The moon is still where the moon ought to be. There is NO inside orbit alteration.

And if there is, I'd love to hear someone post tracking data.

If THAT'S the biggest moon ever witnessed, I will kiss your a$$ - IN PUBLIC.

Now....................................

This is a misdirection. They know there are ppl out there with $5000 telescopes who can see crap they pray to god never get out in public.

Like I said - it's a misdirection.

Last year at this same exact time, I witnessed the moon come over the horizon as if it was within the atmosphere - it was THAT large.

Tonight's moon? Chuh - is anyone paying attention?

I will leave with one small word......

Look on the other side of the planet.

Cheers buddies.

Hello evildweeb , actually you based your whole argument on misconceptions ,
no one claimed it was the biggest moon ever seen ,and actually last year supermoon
was indeed bigger ,no one claimed otherwise .

last night moon was the biggest this year .
