LOMPOC, Calif. - Lompoc Police officers will be patrolling the streets Saturday night for any drunk drivers. They'll be conducting a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint from 6:00 PM until midnight in an undisclosed place within city limits.

Officers say they'll be looking for signs of alcohol and drug impairment as well as checking for proper licensing.

"Over the course of the past three years, DUI Collisions have claimed 2 lives and resulted in 97 injury crashes harming 99 of our friends and neighbors," says Lompoc Sgt. Ed Lardner.

Funding for this checkpoint is provided to Lompoc Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, targeting those who still don't heed the message to designate a sober driver."

Could the military be from Vandenberg AFB?
Could it also have something to do with border issues....drug running?

We have police checkpoints for DUIs and seatbelts all the time, but never seen a military one.

Technically, posse comatatus is suspended, you can thank George Bush for that.
