the paper continues listing examples of past “information blitzes” which have proved to be a success
...but we won't bother giving one or two examples here, because that might inform the reader what the fuck we're actually talking about, and vagueness is so much better for scaring people.
I'll bet my left nut one of them is seat belts.
True leaders sometimes take the public with them, instead of reading the opinion polls and then deciding what the "best policy" is.
Why worry about the potential fascism of tomorrow when we have so much real fascism operating right before our faces today?
When I first read this quote I was shocked at how relevant it was to the US today. I couldn't believe it was written in 1955 about events that occurred so long ago.
I think it's possible there will be a SHTF event to set things in motion. However I think it's more likely our rights will continue to erode and the distance between the people and the government continue to broaden. The propaganda machine will say it's for our own good. Until one day the people wake up in a fascist state and ask how did we get here. Unfortunately it will be to late.
"What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, little by little, to being governed by surprise; to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if the people could not understand it, it could not be released because of national security. And their sense of identification with Hitler, their trust in him, made it easier to widen this gap and reassured those who would otherwise have worried about it."

The gun debate and religious arguments pale into insignificance if these idiots get their way...
If you ever want a reason to protest or hold rallies or take your governments to task... THIS IS IT!!!
Makes you wonder....
I absolutely agree, and it couldn't have been stated better.
They have been testing the waters with various policies for decades now, all the while saying "It's in the best interest of the public's safety". These policies are done with big corporations/the elite's interests in mind, and I doubt the general public's opinion means anything to them.
@ Seahawk--- Thank you for making that PDF available.
I've saved it, and will be giving it, not just a thorough read through, but passing it along to everyone I know that will take the time to read it.Shouting that Government is suppressing the people is like shouting that somebody pooped in the pool. It's only a funny statement until you realize it's true.
A quick summary of the book. Milton Mayer, a Jew, was forced to leave Germany in the early 1930's because of the increasing destructive influence of the NAZI Party. He returns to his country almost 20 years later to uncover how his countries people were led into supporting the totalitarian regime that was NAZI rule.
That's a pretty crappy summary.
I encourage you too read the reviews at Amazon. They are well done and include one by his daughter which is very interesting.
Not sure if I'm not supposed include a link to a commercial site like Amazon, but this will make it easier if you want to check it out.
