UFO's and the Paranormal
I'm new to the forum and website, so bear with me if I'm saying things others have already said. Or if you think I'm talking nonsense.
I first took an interest in UFO's around the age of 16, 1966 to be exact, when I witnessed a silvery object, moving oh, so beautifully across the sky. It zig zagged at speed, and for the few seconds I watched I felt like I was hypnotised, no other words can describe it. Quite an average UFO sighting, you might say.
Yes, but for the fact I was in the company of another 5 people and none of them apparently saw anything. A relative had been visiting and was off home and others in the family, myself included, were seeing her off.
I was always an inquisitive youngster, the slightest movement of a plant or the tiniest sound in an empty room intrigued me and I always wanted to know what was the cause.
Because of this sensitivity to anything out of the normal my eyes were rooted to the sky when the others were saying their goodbyes. Why didn't I yell out or point for them to see what I was witnessing. Strange, but I felt so relaxed and at peace that I didn't feel the need to do so.
It was years later I began to wonder if this experience was only meant for me, a personal glimpse into something unknown. On this occasion the others were not invited.
The strangest thing about my UFO sighting was the changes that took place in my life afterwards. I'd been a shy young man all my life, had a bit of an inferiority complex about a physical disability and did not do well at school, not at all well.
Yet what I can only describe as a gradual broadening of my intellect began to take place. My self confidence soared, I began to study UFO's, the local library being my main source. No internet then, the media of the time mocked most UFO reports and it wasn't a subject you'd dare talk about with parents or friends for fear of being laughed at.
The main book sources of the time were not very inspiring. George Adamski's fake looking UFO pictures and claims he'd been taken to Mars and flown in UFO's was hard to swallow. As were other books like Flying Saucers and the Three Men. That introduced me to Men in Black and brought demonic forces into the subject as well. That was one of the scariest books I've ever read. I'm still not sure what to make of it. Was it fake? If not, what the f--- was going on?
It wasn't until I read a book by Major Keyhoe of the USAF that I realised I was not alone in believing there was more to these things than meets the eye. This was mindlblowing. He wrote of sightings that took place within the armed forces, by pilots, soldiers, sailors and others, policemen, astronomers, even.
Anyway, to cut a long story short I did find my entire life changed for the better and I put it all down to this one defining moment when a circular silvery craft passed my vision for a few seconds in time.
I went through a whole load of theories about who was controlling these UFO's, where they came from, what they were up to. The alien theory was the most common and still is.
Yet through the decades I began more and more to doubt this. I blame the likes of Charles Fort who made me wonder if we were being "fished for", or my favourite author the enigmatic John Keel. I'm still not sure what he was trying to say but he spoke of a race that has been here much longer than we have and he made me think like no other had done.
I believe the UFO phenomenon has more to do with the planet Earth than outer space. I think it is within the same category as the Paranormal, ghosts, crop circles, etc., etc.
I'm afraid I've not got a clue why I believe this, just a feeling, I guess. My own experience was more like supernatural than extra terrestrial.
I often gaze at the sky at night but have never had the good fortune to see it again. meteors, yes, occasional objects that would be hard to explain, but none as mind blowing as the one when I was 16.
I'd appreciate it if anyone with similar experiences or suggestions, even to point me towards those with similar views or reading material of that ilk, can get in touch.
